  1. Resolved Question: Can rabbits be 'fixed' like dogs and cats are?
  2. 23 May 2008 at 7:17am
I mean like spaying and neutering them. I was watching a TV show yesterday which has a Vet segment on it and he told the kid who owned the rabbits (1 boy, 1 girl) that if he didn't want them to have babies then he would have to seperate them. So I was wondering are cats and dogs the only animals which can be spayed/neutered? And is the only possible way to stop other animals from reproducing to seperate them

  5. Resolved Question: Do pro-lifers really want to stop the "murder of innocent ...
  6. 22 May 2008 at 11:57pm
It seems like the whole "abortion is murder" is the big reason to why many people are against it. But is that really what it is about? If the whole abortion debate is about that, then why are animal rights...fuc k, even INSECT RIGHTS not as big of a deal, or even come close as an issue. Animals and insects are living things too, just like fetuses. The Roe v. Wade decision protects laws under the first and second trimesters. Most abortions are made in the first trimester. The baby is smaller than a grain of rice in this stage, and has no consciousness or feeling. Yet there are bugs even bigger than a grain of rice, and are fully developed. And there are definitely animals bigger than a grain of rice too. Bugs are even more developed than the fetuses during the first trimester, yet if someone proposed an idea for bug rights, they would be laughed at. No doubt in my mind. But somehow if someone says killing a fetus in the first trimester is "immoral", that is totally supported. I ran out of space. Basically, I just wanted to raise this issue to discussion. Is the abortion debate really about murdering babies, as most pro-lifers say, or is that all a propaganda technique? I believe that a lot of this pro-life stuff is about controlling women so they have to face the consequences, conservatives believing that more people will choose abstinence. I do believe abortion should be avoided, but I also believe that a baby should never be a consequence, but should be brought into a world where it can be loved. Yes, I realized I've almost "answered my own question," but I wanted to bring this up to debate.

  15. Resolved Question: Can my rabbit make my guinea pigs pregnant?
  16. 22 May 2008 at 4:55pm
I have kept my four-year-old male rabbit with my two two-year-old femaile guinea pigs ever since I got them as babies, and everything has been fine until now. The rabbit seemed to love the guinea pigs, spending hours to licking and cuddling up to them every day. Today, however, I think he was trying to mount one of them. Could she get pregnant? This has never happened before and I have now seperated the animals. But the guinea pigs appear to be sulking behind the hidden part of their new cage, while the rabbit is pacing around looking for them.

  19. Resolved Question: My cats are stealing stuffed animals and other things from...
  20. 22 May 2008 at 3:54pm
My two cats are officially cat burglars. In just the past week, they have brought in a creepy old man doll, a hand made baby pillow, a stuffed Tazmanian Devil keychain, a huge black bear head slipper, a glove(we found the matching one in our yard), a scrunchie, a stuffed sheep, and a stuffed Coca-Cola bear. I admit, it's kind of interesting to wonder what trophies they brought in every morning(its been 2-3 a day for the past couple days). Why is this happening? One of the cats is 3, and we've had since he was a kitten, and one is 1-2, and we adopted 4 months ago. They both are welcome to go in and out the cat door as they please. Could it be the adopted cat trying to pay us back for room and board? Or is it maybe a competition between the two? Or just them trying to provide for the family? Keeping them inside is not an option...they love the outdoors and hunting. Is there another way to make this stop? I looked on google and couldn't really find anything. Thanks. Thanks everyone. We were thinking they were just outdoor items, but the ones brought in this morning were dry, and it rained all night. =)

  21. Resolved Question: Is refridgerating a pet for euthanization unhumane?
  22. 22 May 2008 at 3:17pm
Is it cruel to euthanize a sick, suffering small baby pet that needs to be put down, by putting it in the fridge? I heard it was humane, where I got my guinea pig from ( not a commercial store, just a locally bred small animal pet store ) that is what they do when they have a sick pet, when they are suffering. Kinda need to know...thanks. sorry---I mean FREEZER. Sorry!! um...thanks for answering but I just wanted to know in a kind way...i wasn't going to do it, but i just wanted to know if it was just as humane gosh darnit you people can be mean!

  25. Resolved Question: what can i do if i can no longer afford to take good care ...
  26. 22 May 2008 at 1:49pm
i feel so bad that i can't take care of them. i tried the local humane society, but the local animal shelter has shut down & they're swamped with cats; they're still taking some, but they are picky & won't take mine due to their health histories (they used to have some self-mutilation issues when i first took them in as older kittens, but with treatment & a tail tip amputed, it's resolved). i love my cats, but i can't afford them! (recently had a baby & while on leave ended up getting a paycut, hubby is laid off). one has a flea allergy & i can't afford medication for her! i feel SO awful!! i hate seeing her poor rash & scratching all the time. i used to be able to take good care of them, got them fixed, vaccinated, & regular flea treatments. i've tried to find them homes, but no one that likes them (and they are very likable, sweet cats) can take them. any suggestions??? our local shelter lost all funding & is shutting down this month. the humane society only euthanizes pets that are too sick or injured to recover. but they won't take my cats because of their history & even if they did, they only take them by appt--3 months out 2 of them, about 2 yrs old, a brother & sister. everyone i know that would take a cat already has their limit.

  27. Resolved Question: what to do about the pregnant dog?
  28. 22 May 2008 at 1:43pm
ok...we live in apts where pets are not allowed...but the other night i was out front smoking and this pregnant dog walked up and just started sniffing me. she looks like a pit bull mix...but she was soooo skinny and im such an animal lover...i fed her...and now shes been coming back every night lol which doesnt bother me giving her some scraps BUT my husband told me that i need to call the humane society b/c shes going to have her puppies soon and if she doesnt have food, shes not going to have nutrients to feed her babies. my problem is that our humane society has been under scrutiny lately b/c alot of animals have been getting sick and dying. a good friend adopted a dog from there a few days ago and when she took it to the vet, it had fluid in its lungs and the vet said it only had a few months to live. the dog had been there since it was born...so im conflicted with sending the dog there b/c i dont trust them to take care of the dog or puppies...what else can i do to help this dog?

  33. Resolved Question: Peace111 ? Would you believe that today is the birth anniv...
  34. 22 May 2008 at 10:24am
Today, May 23, is the 2041st birthday of Jesus. He was born on May 23 according to the Holy Spirit we talk to. I learned about this date in 1983 and checked for its veracity recently. The year of His birth?33 BC. Jesus was 32 solar years old when He died or 33 lunar years. May 23 seems to be logically correct because Jesus could not have been born in December. How could you expect shepherds to be out in the field at a wintry cold night? How could you expect a new born baby to just be wrapped in swaddling cloth? How could the manger (eating trough for farm animals, such as sheep, cattle, horses, be available in the shelter if He was born in December? Could census be taken during the cold wintry and rainy month? Would there be grass in winter for the sheep to feed on in the field? What is your opinion about the matter? Could you believe this revelation?

  36. 22 May 2008 at 10:01am
....in the water? Was he thinking how merciful and loving his "god was, as he saw the bodies of innocent children and infants floating all around him? What made Noah's immediate family so sinless and pure that they were spared, while at the same time tiny babies, and unborn babies (not to mention the millions of animals that had never done anything wrong) needed to be killed? What made these 8 people so different from every other person in the world? Had the unborn babies done some sinning? Fundies can you please show us the justification for this incredible slaughter, which included countless unborn babies who could not possibly have done anything to deserve to be killed?

  45. Resolved Question: Does anyone else find the process of stem cell research to...
  46. 21 May 2008 at 10:04pm
I will admit to being ignorant of the in and outs of this research. First, aren't stem cells present in the umbilical cord? When I was pregnant, all sorts of info about banking the babies cord blood, due to the versatility of stem cells, seemed to say that they were. So, if these wonderful cells are present in umbilical cords, that we routinely throw away, why do we need recently fertilized eggs? Second, what could the possible benefit of having .1% of the dna in that egg be animal? (They are passing laws about this in Britian right now). How could studing something that would never occur in nature help the medical community? When has a disease ever occured where a doctor said "If only we had seen how animal dna effected stem cells, all the answers needed would be known." "If only we had a human-animal hybrid to illuminate this situation!!!" "I am sorry sir, in order for this us to be able to treat you we need to know the effect of the disease on an embryo with .1% animal dna"

  47. Resolved Question: DO baby birds return to their nests after they begin flying?
  48. 21 May 2008 at 8:07pm
The reason I am asking this question is because there was a nest on my front porch. Well soon enough the birds eggs hatched and they were like 3 or four baby birds. Then today they started flying out of their nest one by one. They couldn't really stay up in the air for more than a couple seconds. As soon as the last bird left the nest my grandfather knocked down the nest thinking the nest is useless now. Is this true. Usually things like this involving animals don't bother me, but for some reason I care about the birds. Do you think they still need the nest or not? WIll they be find?

  49. Resolved Question: Cloning - What Are Your Thoughts?
  50. 21 May 2008 at 7:47pm
On Yahoo's front page there is a video about cloning dogs and some puppies that made it all because dog owners who have had a dog pass away can't handle the grief and need a double. I'm curious as to your thoughts. I'm against cloning animals and humans. I mean, cloning cats is rediculous when they breed like rabbits, cloning dogs is the same. I absaloutly love dogs, i have two that are my babies, when i lost my dogs brother i was heartbroken, he was killed, but i dealt with it and move don, just like you do a loved one, you start healing and move on. I wouldn't clone my deceased grandmother, why, because she was one of a kind and a clone wouldn't even compare to who and what she was. I wouldn't clone my dog because same principle, they are one of a kind. The idea of cloning humans just creeps me out.

  52. 21 May 2008 at 7:38pm
I know most people are going to say whatever. Usually I can pick her up. I just had a baby, and my stomach muscles are not coming back like they usually do. She is only 2inches shorter than her 9yr old brother. She's also very strong. Still I will not allow my children to act like wild animals. She only does this while her dad is at work. When he is home she knows he is very capable of placing her on the step for her five minutes. Or in the bed if she is having a major meltdown. Any advice would be appreciated.

  58. 21 May 2008 at 6:23pm
There was a 1961 technicolor horror classic called KONGA. Dr.Decker comes back from Africa after a year, presumed dead. During that year, he came across a way of growing plants and animals to an enormous size. He brings back a baby chimpanzee to test out his theory. As he has many enemies at home, he decides to use his chimp, 'Konga' to 'get rid of them'. Then Konga grows to gigantic proportions and reaks havoc all over the city of London!! The film stars actor Michael Gough and a cast of others. It was directed by John Lemont. There was a final scene where Dr. Decker (Michael Gough) threatening Sandra Banks (Claire Gordon) in the greenhouse. She says "Let me go", and Dr. Decker says that he will if she "promises to work for him", she says that she'll never. She struggles to get free. Konga appears through the glass ceiling of the greenhouse and grabs Dr. Decker, Claire screams and falls free. Meanwhile her left arm gets caught in some plant and screams. The scene cuts away.

  63. Resolved Question: Please help: 15 weeks pregnant & concerned about salicylic...
  64. 21 May 2008 at 3:30pm
As I mentioned, I am 15 weeks pregnant & developed a very sore plantar's wart on the bottom of my foot. It had gotten to the point it was unbearable. I was using Compound W plantar wart removal for the past week because when I read the box it said nothing about pregnant women. I have stopped because I came across an article that ideally salicylic acid should be avoided during pregnany (unless the benefits outweight the risks). It is rated a "C" drug by the FDA. The studies done on it were on animals, given orally, and using 6 times the highest recommended dose for humans. Mine was topical use and on a very small amount of skin. My doctor's office is closed by noon on Wednesdays, but I left a message. Does anyone know anything about this? You don't think I caused any harm to the baby, do you? I am kind of freaking out :( Thank you This is one website that explains salicylic acid if you scroll down: http://www.dermadoctor.com/pages/newsletter82.asp this one explains a little better: http://www.pregnancytoday.com/expertqa/worries/is-it-safe-to-use-acne-medication-duri ng-pregnancy-1966

  65. Resolved Question: Are there any parrots that aren't one person birds?
  66. 21 May 2008 at 2:10pm
My family wants to get a bird... in the near future. Our last bird was a quaker. I was his favorite but he also got a long with my mom and dad.. no one else could really touch him. We want to get a bird that will be able to interact with more than one person.. preferably all of us. I do like when birds are affectionate as well. Im just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good pet bird for our situation. Some of the things we liked the most about our quaker was that he talked and was really funny and like to cuddle at times as well. We would get another quaker.. but I don't really want to because they look so much a like and think we should get something bigger that would be better with the other animals in the house (dogs and cats) The cats never really bothered the bird.. but it was my dog that killed my poor little baby in the end. Long story.. just a bad situation please don't say i shouldn't have another bird or anything.. you don't know the situation. at least is there a bird like my quaker?? my quaker, like i said didn't bond to just one person.. it still didn't let everyone touch him but he did let three of us. And he used to let everyone hold him up until he turned two.. then he started to get aggressive. I think he reached his sexual maturity though.. and thats why.

  71. Resolved Question: what breed should I look into?
  72. 20 May 2008 at 9:32pm
Ok I am interested in gettin a dog ( possibly a puppy) as a family pet. I am looking for a breed that is known to be good with children and other animals since we have a 5 year old and a baby on the way as well as we already have a young male cat. I'd prefer a decent watchdog/protector type. Also looking for something in the medium size range, preferably short hair as well. Any suggestions?

  73. Voting Question: Little babies couldnt handle this question i guess.?
  74. 20 May 2008 at 7:48pm
Okay, why do you want to breed your dogs? do you not realize the dangers of it? do you not realize that your dog could get tumors, cancer, in the uterus, and could die during birth?? why the heck did this question even get deleted? i dont have to shut up, neither. im a animal loving person, not a peta loving person. spay and neuter your dogs, we have bred them for us, and now we have evolved to spay and neuter them. its cheaper to spay and neuter them anyway. so, why do you breed? and dont report this, if you cant take this little question, then dont read. Exactly! that bugs the heck out of me. they claim they are pro breeders, then ask, if my dog has milk coming from her nipples, how long till the pups come? or my dog just mated with my other dog, how long will she be pregnant for? and so on. its so retarted. they need to stop and neuter and spay their dog. we have an appointment for my dog on June 27th. to get spayed and for a rabies shot.

  75. Resolved Question: CRABS! Hurry up and DANG click!?
  76. 20 May 2008 at 7:46pm
Well, my class got some crabs... like a week ago, and they are sending them home 2morrow. I already have a note, already gave it to the teacher, but I don't know how 2 take care of them. So I'm gonna need someone thats great at science please, or an animal expert. If ur one, read on: Their names are Fiddler Crabs. Do they need water? What do they eat? If they die, can I feed it to something? What sickness can they get? If theyget sic, howcan I tell if its sick? What size should the container be? How much would it cost? Can they pinch VERY hard and draw blood? How big can they get? If its a baby, how long will it live? ( Just so you know, the teacher didn't tell us anything about them. ) How can you tell if they're dead? PLEASE ANSWER ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS! : )

  77. Resolved Question: Can babies/toddlers differentiate between dreams and reality?
  78. 20 May 2008 at 5:12pm
If an adult wakes up shaken from a vivid dream, he/she will know it was a dream. Is there anyway to know if babies (or animals for that matter) are able to determine that dreams are not reality?

  79. Resolved Question: Very sick little duck! What is wrong, and what do I do?
  80. 20 May 2008 at 5:03pm
My baby ducks, that I got for Easter have been perfect until about a few days ago. There are three of them, and the leader has always taken care of the other two. My mom went outside to put them in the yard for the day, and realized that the leader was very sick. He cant stand, and when he does it's for a second. He waddles on his bottem, and his side. He does eat and drink just fine. His cheeks appear to be puffy, and his eyes seem runny to me. Today, it seems that he can hardly quack. I know that the vet around this small town wont do anything, because he only focuses on cattle, and large animals. Someone please help my little friend!

  81. Resolved Question: Translate into Russian?
  82. 20 May 2008 at 4:37pm
It's an excerpt from a friend of mine that I want to translate for her as part of her birthday. Except my Russian sucks so bad (only 2 years in school) that I can't adequately write it. I can transliterate it to Cyrillic if you want to write in Latin. "I like sports a lot!! I played volleyball for 2 years, and it was very fun!! There I met new friends and got in great shape!I like football also, but only to watch!! Volleyball is my favourite hobby! Also I enjoy hanging out with friends!! I also love nature!! Animals are amazing! Baby dogs are adorable, and baby polar bears!" SPASIBO!! And no translators. If I wanted an incorrect translation, I'd do it myself.

  83. Voting Question: Do you believe this?... Christian Preacher sees heaven, sees...
  84. 20 May 2008 at 3:14pm
When Jesus said I and the Father are one... He meant literally... I was shocked too. A christian preacher sees heaven, the son and the father. He talks about gold streets in heaven, babies, animals and etc. My question do you believe this? I do, what he says lines up with the bible!! This is a must watch... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5112255142824133974 Why are you all mocking?.. You haven't even seen the video did you, lol.

  89. Resolved Question: What happens to animal nest when you get a tree cut down?
  90. 20 May 2008 at 2:27pm
What do the companies do with bird and squirrel nests that are in the trees that they cut down? What if there are babies in them do they not care? Does everything just get put into a woodchipper?

  91. Resolved Question: Does anyone know anything about fawns? Can you read my det...
  92. 20 May 2008 at 1:55pm
I was taking my 3 dogs for a walk today and they spotted a deer. My older female got loose, she pulled so hard that the leash slipped out of my hands. I saw the fawn next and I could tell it was probably only a week old at the most. She trapped it against a fence and it got down in the hiding position. The Mom was on the other side of the fence freaking out and ready to attack my dogs. I lifted the baby over the other side of the fence and they took off. However, my other dogs got loose in the chaos and the fawn and the deer took off in separte directions. I got a hold of my two dogs but the one female chased the Mom. She didn't come back for 15 minutes. I looked for the fawn but didn't find it. I know that you should NEVER handle baby animals because the Mom may reject them but I had to save it from the dogs. Will she be able to retrace her path and find it by smell or should I search for it? My gut tells me that she'll probably smell it or her its cries, right? I meant hear its cries. Anyways, I know that even if I did find it that I should just leave it, right?

  93. Resolved Question: Hand-fed Blue Jays and when to let them go?
  94. 20 May 2008 at 11:05am
We are hand-feeding 4 baby blue jays, as their nest was damaged and knocked out of their tree. We tried to fix the nest and put babies back, but they ended up back on the ground and mother not helping them out. We have since taken them in and have been hand-feeding them baby bird food that we got from PetSmart. They look like they will be able to fly in about another day or 2. Does anyone know how long they need to be fed before releasing them into the wild? We have so many cats, dogs, hawks, crows, and other preditory animals around - I would hate to see all of our hard work go down the tube if we let them go too soon. When do they start feeding for themselves? This foster mommy stuff is for the birds.... no pun intended :) I had no idea there was a law against trying to help these little guys. It was never my intention to harm them in any way. I only know that if I had left them where they were, in the cold puddle of mud during a horrendous rain storm, they would have died. We watched this nest being built, we heard them as the hatched, and we checked on their progress every day. We waited for mommy bird to go down to the ground to take care of her babies for hours and hours, and she never did. The babies were shaking, peeping, and looked scared to death. I did what only comes natural to me as an animal lover and tried to save them, which I believe I did. We live in a very wooded area, and it was never my intention of keeping them, only to get them strong enough so that they could live back in the wild. We have more bird-feeders than I can count, and many different species that we enjoy watching. I know in the future to make the proper calls, but in this case I just did what I had to do.

  95. Resolved Question: What about the issue of animals indirectly dying from farm...
  96. 20 May 2008 at 10:14am
My mother has a farm of sorts and one year had her fields cut back (which needs to be done regardless of planting else it becomes thickets, etc) to plant alfalfa. She felt bad about the results as many baby birds and bunnies died, not to mention countless numbers of insects. I strive to live out a vegan lifestyle as much as the next vegan but it is a good point that some meat eaters have raise about the indirect killings that occur by farming plant matter. I do not wish to go back to eating animal based products but at the same time it would be hypocritical of the vegetarian community not to address this very real problem and to come up with viable solutions. Good point Michael about the seasons to cut. I wish my mother knew then as she truly cares about animals herself. I think it was one of the first times she had her fields bush hogged and she laments about all the song birds that died. I loved this quote. "the fact that we might accidentally run someone over with our car does not imply that it is ok to run them over on purpose."

  97. Resolved Question: So what's the right way to set up your aquarium?
  98. 20 May 2008 at 10:01am
OK, so I have another question on here regarding my Golden Inca Snail...turns out she was dead...realized this because the other fish were trying to eat her. Anyway, from everything I have read online and from 3 different salespeople, you need to set up your aquarium, heat it, etc., and then 24 hours later, add fish. What did I do wrong? I have never heard of cycling a tank until I started researching this dead snail thing. I thought I read it all. I even went on the Tetra web site and did the whole tutorial about setting up an aquarium and adding fish. Now, I am getting people telling me that I didn't cycle my tank. Are there differing opinions and options of setting up the tank? I certainly don't want my new babies to die, but don't have any clue what I did wrong, when I followed these tutorials to the letter. And please, be nice. I am still new at this. And a huge animal lover.

  99. Resolved Question: Three dreams last night about things that are buried?
  100. 20 May 2008 at 9:51am
    1) "Buried "Roots" While working in a farmer's organized manure composting system, I accidentally uncover buried root vegetables. They are turnips, potatoes and sweet potatoes. There are lots of them, and they have not spoiled. 2) "Spring Bulb Sale" I go to Fred Meyers (regional grocery store) and spring bulbs are on sale, buy 3 for $2 each. I am excited. I can't make up my mind. Should I get more? I have so many already. Tulips? No... I want irises. Where are the irises? 3) "Buried Pet" I discover that part of my flower garden and the lawn had been dug up. It's a big mess, and it looks like it's a grave. Stuffed animals and a photo have been laid out left, and there is a collapsed indentation in the grass that suggests a cat, dog or baby was buried there. I then realize something similar had happened before, but on a smaller scale. Someone has been sneaking into my yard and burying things! All three dreams happened last night. I immediately realized the common theme.< >
