  3. Resolved Question: Help! art history essay!?
  4. 11 Feb 2008 at 6:05pm
Using three works of art from the 18th and 19th centuries explain how the french revolution is dialectically reflected in art. Be sure and include the following people, genres of art and terms in your paper: Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Napoleon Bonaparte, Baroque, Rococo, and absolutism. Each term missing will be minus 5 points. Your essay should demonstrate an understanding of the history of the period and how art reflects history. i am not asking for the essay to be done for me... i am asking what is meant by it and what exactly the assignment is and maybe a few ideas of how art reflects history and how history reflects art. by the way im in tenth grade...

  14. 8 Feb 2008 at 3:14am
How does a Minuet by D Scarlatti differ from the Minuets in JS Bach Keyboard works? In terms of Dynamics, texture, style, articulation and other personal characteristics that is typical of Bach and typical of Scarlatti. How does a Minuet distinguish itself as a minuet and How does a minuet by Bach and Scarlatti differ. In my opinion, Minuets by Bach are usually grand and Majestic, fit for a dance ball in the baroque era and those by Scarlatti usually sound typical of Scarlatti, usually presto, sometimes a bit 'Spanish'. HOwever, is there a basis to my opinion here ? thanks.

  15. Resolved Question: Fact or Factoid?
  16. 7 Feb 2008 at 5:03pm
Don't get me started about betting shops. Betting shops are strange places where time stands still: Alan Shearer still has a full head of hair and plays for Blackburn Rovers, Ian Wright plays for Arsenal and has a Bobby Brown hairdo and Steven Hendry is the pockmarked 17 year-old world Snooker champion. Nothing matters in betting shops except betting. Is that good? I suppose it must be. The only good thing about betting shops is that you can drink, smoke, and use the bathroom. Facts and statistics can mean anything, but they rarely do. Men need statistics far more than women. As Angela Carter once told me: "Men think in feet, women are the feared other than will unravel your mind with baroque images of the subversion of order." I think she was drunk at the time. Lovely woman - although she doesn't share my birthday.

  19. Resolved Question: Chronicles Of Riddick why so many haters?
  20. 5 Feb 2008 at 3:50am
I saw this movie and I thought wow this is bad ass I enjoyed it, now what I thought was really friggin weird is it got horrible reviews almost everywhere even more paradoxical I go on forums and people say they hate it for weird simple reasons like the scenery is too baroque or someone will say just plain it it sucked, another questions this entails do you think critics are payed and if not don't you feel they take things to personally this review btw this movie is truely an odd ball and the reasons that most critics gave were it was cheesy or something that didn't really explain anything concrete. Does anyone else sometimes feel upset that these critics make money being negative and are doing the same thing basically anyone else can do? TALK SHIT, also if you've seen this movie please respond. also btw all my friends love the movie and most of my family does why doesn't this add up?

  22. 4 Feb 2008 at 11:35pm
You must choose only one genre of music to listen to for the rest of your life. After you choose, your ears will hear nothing else. So choose a category. The category can be fairly general. For example, choosing Jazz gets you all kinds of jazz. Classical gets you Baroque, romantic, early, choral etc etc. And Pop gets you everything from swing, to rock, to country, to rap. What would you choose?

  26. 4 Feb 2008 at 2:24am
As I was watching New York celebr8 w/ their Vince Lombardi trophy, I spoke w/ my folks about comparing it 2 the Stanley Cup celebrations. U'no, 2 guys w/ gloves carry the Cup over the red carpet, the 1st guy who touches it is like the most deserving (e.g. Ray Baroque of the CO Avalanche) & each sk8r hoists & smooches the Cup & stuff like that. Despite the poor ratings the NHL has 2day, do sports fans still consider the Stanley Cup the most beautiful trophy in sports? & do the fans in Anaheim, Carolina, & Tampa Bay still think so, as opposed 2 Detroit, New York, Montreal, or any other city that hasn't earned the Stanley Cup in the past 3 seasons? Point taken, Jay B. & thumbs up 4 your avatar, which looks like either a guinea pig, rabbit, or another rodent. I'm having trouble using a guinea pig bitmap for my avatar.

  30. 3 Feb 2008 at 5:23am
I don't like pop music and not mad on jazz either but I love music for the spirit and soul - classical music, serious music as it were. Pop and jazz don't measure up or feed my mind the same way. I'm very keen on baroque music and the music of Beethoven but not so interested when the romantics kick in, though I love Brahms. Jump over Liszt, Wagner etc to Stravinsky, Bartok and the more moderns. A passion is madrigals and 16th and 17th English and European music.

  52. 27 Jan 2008 at 6:09pm
I have an 8100/80 Power Macintosh on which I use only one program, Bridge Baron 1.0. The operating system on the old Mac is 7.6.1, which is able to run the bridge program. Now I'm acquiring a new Mac Pro desktop to replace my six-year-old Dell, so I would like an emulation program that will let me keep the old Bridge Barron functional since I don't like the baroque newer versions of the program. I know emulation programs exist, but I don't know if they can accommodate software as old as this bridge program, which may date back to the late 80's or early 90's.

  54. 27 Jan 2008 at 3:08pm
As I've been preparing for my auditions for college, I've been studying a couple of selections from Bach's English Suites. These suites, written in the Baroque period, were obviously not originally written for piano. They were written for the harpsichord which had no sense of dynamics or opposing colors. So the question is raised : Does one play these works as though they are being played on a harpsichord, with a steady dynamic level and flat line tones, or does one adapt these works to the piano, adding appropriate dynamics and bringing out certain melodic voices? What do you think?

  55. Resolved Question: Scores For?
  56. 27 Jan 2008 at 2:26pm
David Holsinger's "To Tame the Perilous Skies" Robert W. Smith's "Inferno" Gustav Holst's "The Planets" Norman Dello Joio's "Satiric Dances" Don't get the wrong idea, I don't want to break copyright, so retailers, websites are welcome, though I would rather download study scores free. So, retailers, public domain (even most are modern), etc.... Pricing needs to be reasonable. Also suggestions would be welcome for contemporary orchestrated works and Baroque/Romantic solos, quintets and quartets for brass and/or flute/piccolo. Thanks a bunch.

  60. 26 Jan 2008 at 11:04pm
Right now, my main interests are history, Austrian economics, physics, biology, and Baroque music. I spend most of my time doing stuff related to that. Now, there's nowhere I could study Austrian economics, so that leaves me with history, physics, biology, and music. I can't even decide if I should think about science colleges, or liberal-arts colleges. But, I figure it can't hurt to be prepared, and maybe after I take some tests I'll be able to decide if that subject is what I want to pursue. I'm going to take the SAT -already took the PSAT- but I don't know what else to do. I don't have grades or a transcript (working on the latter) so I was thinking AP classes or subject SATs...but what's better? Since I haven't had a very systematic education, I'll have to go over something once to be comfortable with it before I'll be okay with taking a test. So before I can take a biology test, I have to finish my biology lectures and *then* prep for the test. What do you recommend? Don't tell me to go to school or any retarded crap like that. If I was interested in going back, I would just go. I don't want to, I'm not going to, don't waste my time.

  71. Resolved Question: Where is the genre of what we call 'Classical Music' headed?
  72. 22 Jan 2008 at 10:36pm
When I say 'classical music', I guess I am referring to a range of genres. One might just think of it as all the things they find in the classical music section of a large record store: orchestral, baroque, modern classical, opera, solo instrumental, etc, etc. Do you think that 100 years from now composers will still be composing in the traditional, classical form? Or will the genre become even more obscure? I think we could see some great times of resurgence for classical music in the future. What do you think?

  73. Resolved Question: Am I a megalomaniac?
  74. 21 Jan 2008 at 9:22pm
I addictively watch movie scenes where there is a loud organ playing and scenes of huge cathedrals. I day dream about being an Emperor of the French Empire or the King of France or just conquering the world, while listening to Gloria in D chorus or Handel's Sarabande or Mozart's Requiem. I feel like I'm a member of a European court in my past life. I have an elistist view of life in which I look down on poor people and uneducated people. I wish to live during the Baroque times and the Neoclassic times. I'm attracted to cathedral bell sounds, organ music, tall cathedrals. My favorite art work is Coronation of Napoleon by David. I'm Asian, but I feel like I should be a European and I have fondness for everything Western civilization. Also, I dislike Asians and asian culture.

  75. Voting Question: Choosing the best string set for my violin?
  76. 21 Jan 2008 at 3:31pm
I currently use Pirastro's Obligato brand strings on my 1946 Wilkanowski violin. It has a think body and is well suited to Obligato's with a darker, stickier rosin cake for more baroque styled playing. Recently I have switched to a bluegrass style of playing. Many of the songs require a more smooth sound as often heard in country music and the dark and sticky sound of my setup simply isn't cutting it. Any idea of what would help a thicker shaped instrument out with smoothness and tone in the higher register? My E especially has always had trouble, usually requiring goldplating to assist in tone.
