  1. Resolved Question: what to do?
  2. 17 Feb 2008 at 10:31am
HELP! i'm completly confused about what career i want to go down, i was all set up to go working in hotels and now my childhood dream of being a paleotologist has come back, i've researched this job and it says that you have to get a dotoral degree (yiks) so i'm not sure if i could do that, i added up that i would be out of education at 27! So I thought about doing a degree in zoology and taking it from there but i don't really know what it's like to be a zooloigst and where you can work.

  3. Resolved Question: He has a crush on me! NOOOO!?
  4. 17 Feb 2008 at 10:28am
ok so i know this guy for like a year now, we've been friends along time, but now he has a major crush on me and i use to have one on him, but I realize i deserve better, because every time we made plans to hangout he would always stood me up! I mean even he said he doesn't deserve me. i think it would never work out because he has a lot of girls as friends and some he already played around with and i'm the jealous type, also he parties a lot and i don't so i would never could tag along with him, he would be partying and i would be sitting at home alone. We live far from each other and he doesn't have a car yet, so we only see each other at school, but now i have this cooperative education class where i have to leave school and do work experience, so i now i don't get to see him at school anymore, only twice a month! i just need a way to tell him we better of friends, but i don't want him to be so crushed he won't talk to me anymore. What do i do? He even said on msn that he can't wait to ask me a someting in person when he sees me again! he said that i probably already have a pretty good idea but he still wants to ask in person, he's so excited to ask me out and i'm gonna say no, poor guy, i just need nice and easy words to say no to him, that we better of friends!

  5. Resolved Question: How much do STNA'S make???
  6. 17 Feb 2008 at 10:25am
I am an STNA right out of school. I was employed by a nursing home with 40 residents. I took the job because it was the first offered to me and I am a single mom! I make $9.50 an hour. They don't allow us to work any over time. If we do pick up a shift we still get the same pay. The will not reimburse me for STNA school but if I go on with my education they will reimburse me after I finish. I just wonder am I getting the short end of the stick? Should I start looking elsewhere. I'm in Butler County, Ohio

  11. Resolved Question: Are you really looking at all factors?
  12. 17 Feb 2008 at 10:04am
Hello My Fellow Americans, We must pick a President who can stand up and battle for us and our Country without backing down. The next President is walking into the White House with a massive mess left on the desk waiting for them. Regardless of who it is, they are going to be faced with a great challenge. One that will require experience, dedication, and someone with solutions to those problems. I am not here trying to put anyone down. But I am asking you to step back away from the Obama Hype, and really look at him, what solutions has he offered? What details has he shared with America in how he is going to get the job done? He hasn't. True, he gives great speeches. But speeches aren't solutions. Speeches don't pay for your education, put food on your table, put clothes on your back, and his health care does not cover all Americans. He plans on cutting the cost, but offers no detail as in how he will do that. What about those people who still wont be able to afford it even when the cost has been cut? His plan will leave over 15 million Americans as they are "without health coverage". How many of you who do not have health coverage are voting for him? I wonder how many of you will be one of those 15 millions not covered by his plan? People like to try and remind everyone of every single mistake Hillary has made in her life. We all make mistakes, we learn from them, they make us wiser further on down the road. Hillary's health care plan includes every single American. Yes she tried getting this plan through before and it failed, it failed because of drug and insurance companies knocking it, and now those companies have came together and are now backing her, have helped her come up with the plan, she will lower drug cost and insurance cost, and even then, those who still can not afford it after that has been done, will be covered by the Gov. Its a great plan, as many of her other plans are. I for one am glad that Hillary and former candidate John Edwards, supports UHC for all Americans under this plan, because far too many little children and teenage children are without coverage while the parents are out drinking the money up, playing poker etc, and not giving a hoot about those childrens health care. And we also have many Americans who just cannot afford it no matter how cheap it is because far too many other bills need to be paid. But I am just asking you to really look at both Clinton and Obama without gender and race being a factor, look at their ideas and solutions. Vote to better yourself and your family, and America. And in my opinion, only one person stands out for that job. ****Hillary 2008*** Vetted, Tested & Ready on Day One No training necessary!

  13. Voting Question: American Degrees?
  14. 17 Feb 2008 at 10:03am
hello peeps, am in need of info. basically i got 3 A levels [crappy grades at D D C; seriously considering doing them again]. Basically my family are looking to migrate to USA. All wel and handy i got no problem in moving, but my issue is with the education system in USA [Albany new York we're prob going to, have relatives already there]. I've been informed that they have a wide range of subjects that they study in their undergraduate years with maths english sciences and a langauge being compulsary... now comapre this to the english education system and it sounds more like A level format. I dono. Could someone kindly give me the D Low [or is it Low D?] on how the american education system works please >?<. University colleges High Schools etc. Also, as here i'm considering re taking my entire A levels, would this be possible in USA? An equivilant as such that i can do? Thank you so much for your time :) hmm... the compulsory subjects sounds very similar to the baccalaureate. so if i wanted to go to a american uni i have no idea atm; will visit those websites though. thanks again and cheerio xx read through your post again #1, sounds good. i liked math at school.. only i wanted to do it for an a level 4 yrs later but couldn't do basic algebra so never took the subject. okay, so, for someone like me who's got crappy a levels but wants to get into a good law school how would you recommend me doing so? I'm willing to consider all options... :)

  21. Resolved Question: WHY so many blond jokes?
  22. 17 Feb 2008 at 9:40am
She Was Soooooooo Blonde.... - she sent me a fax with a stamp on it - she thought a quarterback was a refund - she tried to put M&M's in alphabetical order - she thought Boyz II Men was a daycare center - she thought Meow Mix was a record for cats - under "education" on her job application, she put "Hooked On Phonics" - she tried to drown a fish - she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice box because it said "concentrate" - she told me to meet her at the corner of "WALK" and "DON'T WALK" - if you gave her a penny for intelligence, you'd get change back - she took a ruler to bed to see how long she slept - at the bottom of the application where it says "sign here".. she put "Sagittarius" - she asked for a price check at the Dollar Store - if she spoke her mind, she'd probably be speechless - she studied for a blood test - she thought she needed a token to get on Soul Train - she sold the car for gas money - when she saw the "NC-17" (under 17 not admitted), she went home and got 16 friends - when she heard that 90% of all crimes occur around the home, she moved - she thinks Taco Bell is where you pay your phone bill - when she missed the 44 bus, she took the 22 bus twice instead

  26. 17 Feb 2008 at 9:26am
Is a university degree the same as a A Level certification? So do we go from secondary education (o levels) to Junior college (A levels) then to University for a degree?(BA) then where do the diploma come in? Thats the JC route, but if i were to take a route from O levels straight to a diploma, Do unversities still request a certification in " A "levels? I am looking in a globalised picture.

  27. Resolved Question: My six year old brother is unmanageable, and I feel helpless?
  28. 17 Feb 2008 at 9:24am
My six year old brother is turning into a terrible child. I hate to say that. I love children. I am 20, I am attending school for Early Childhood Education and work at a childcare center where I have worked since age 16. My siblings are ages 6, 7, and 8. My mother and step father seem to have no clue how to be parents. My siblings constantly use terrible language (swearing) in front of them, even calling my parents terrible names! All of these bad doings go unpunished. My siblings ages 7 and 8 will not act this way around me, becuase they know that it is unexceptable behavior and I will not stand for it. I enjoy having a good time with them, playing games, and having fun - but I will not tolorate the same behavior that my parents do. My 6 year old brother however does not seem to care about concequences. The main reson being, I believe, is becuase there rarely are concequences for his bad behavior. (more details coming) My mother gets angry and just screams and yells, my brother takes it as a joke because no real punishment ever comes of it. She threatens that he will not go over his friends houses, or that he will not get to watch tv - but never goes through with what she says. He has done things as bad as stabbing my sister with a pen, and actually breaking the skin (slightly). The child is completely out of control! Last night it was almost midnight, and my brother was standing in the living room screaming because he wanted something (i dont know what he wanted). He was screaming so loudly that he woke me up out of a sound sleep. My mother was screaming at him to get to bed and he was just in a rage! I took him upstairs to my room to try to talk to him and find out what the problem was. He would not calm down. He kept screaming that he wanted mommy. The reason I brought him with me in the first place was to get him away from my mother, who was screaming. (More details coming) To make a long story SOURT OF short... my mother, who was screaming at my brother (my brother kept calling her terrible names and screaming at the top of his lungs, telling her that she is not the boss)....came to my room, got my brother, and babied him. I seriously wanted to vomit. I was trying to help her by calming him down, and trying to help him by finding out what it was that he wanted, and why he was so upset... In the end of every terrible situation, he is rewarded for his miserable behavior. I feel like I'm losing my mind because whats going on is so insane. This situation (him screaming in the middle of the night and throwing a fit) happens at least once or twice a week. I can not stand to listen to all of the screaming! Luckily I am moving out soon, but my other two siblings (who are not misbehaved like that) will be here and will be around this insanity!!! What can I do? I constantly talk 2 my parents about it but they ignore the fact that hes so terrible

  29. Resolved Question: Did any one looked at his voting records?
  30. 17 Feb 2008 at 8:56am
I guess what is important to me is NOT important to him. This is just some of them:1/25/07 To improve access to affordable health care. Nay 1/25/07 To make permanent certain education-related tax incentives. Nay 3/22/07 To establish a reserve fund for Social Security. Nay 5/15/07 To prioritize Federal spending to ensure the needs of Louisiana residents who lost their homes as a result of Hurricane Katrina and Rita are met before spending money to design or construct a nonessential visitors center. Nay 6/11/07 A bill to reduce our Nation's dependency on foreign oil by investing in clean, renewable, and alternative energy resources, promoting new emerging energy technologies, developing greater efficiency, and creating a Strategic Energy Efficiency and Renewables Reserve to invest in alternative energy, and for other purposes. Not Voting Senator Obama's Voting Record for the 110th Congress: http://obama.senate.gov/votes/ Sorry MO...... This is Obama's own site.....Don't crucify me for it. I do not like any of the candidates . I am waiting for an alternative in this country. That dose not consist of PROFESSIONAL LIERS..... Dear Dani.... I do understand how the riders on a bill work...... Strike what you don't agree with, and approve remainder of the bill. My son turned 16 last week has told me his girlfriend (15) is pregnant. I really am not sure what to do or say, I am absolutely gutted. they have been together for 6 months, she is from a council estate and a family that thinks it is ok to be pregnant or to have sex at this age - they are common as muck have no aspirations, desires or ambition & live off government money. I have spent over £100k on my son's education he is a grade A/B student. he is due to live in Dubai in Aug to study his A-levels & University after that. I am 33 & had my son at 17. I know only too well how difficult it was bringing up a child at an early age & was very lucky to have such a supportive family. I've always taught him from a young age about the birds & bees, protection for him & her, I had no idea they were sexually active. he has told me they used a condom but it split, they tried to get the morning after pill but the clinic was closed on Saturday. PLEASE HELP - I DO NOT want 2 accept this.

  45. Resolved Question: confused.. is he joking or not? what should i do? I kindda...
  46. 17 Feb 2008 at 8:25am
I come from a well educated family background. My parents care for me a lot and my mum had warned me about not to trust the people outside easily especially when I'm looking for a boyfriend. I know education is important and I never plan to look for boyfriend until I had completed my studies and find myself a good job. My mum trusts me a lot and she knows I will complete my studies first. At the age of 11, there was a guy who wants to be more than friends with me but I rejected him. It happened again when I was 12. Again, I pay no attention to him but focus on my studies. Both times I rejected them without fear or regrets. But about 4 days ago, 13th Feb 2008(Wed) about 12 midnight, I went online and found some of my friends online. A male friend IM me and suddenly asked me to consider him. At first, I'm not sure what he mean but I guess he is asking me to be his gf? Am I right? He continued by asking me to go out the next day (it was valentine the next day) and for the first time I feel scared about this case since I wasn?t scared at all during the last two experiences. Since I was scared, I just didn?t reply him so this guy sms me and said, ?am I scaring u? nevermind, I give u time to consider this. give me answer tomorrow. good night?. I asked if he was serious or is he just joking and he told me he is serious. The next day, I decided I should really complete my studies so that I will not disappoint my mum or myself so I decided to tell the guy that I do not wish to be his gf but when I went online, I found an offline msg from him saying, ?I love you? then another msg saying ?sorry, I didn?t type that! sorry, it was typing error?. I ignored the msg and waited for him to come online. when he came online, he said to me, ?hey sorry about yesterday, I was joking too overly.? My heart dropped and I felt anger. I felt I was being cheated. However I just reply him as if I wasn?t angry by saying, ?nevermind, I knew you were joking.? So then after that day, I try to forget about him, but yesterday, he type an ID msg next to his name saying, ?I never give up, still waiting for your answer?. So now I?m wondering if he is referring to me or is he joking again? The last two experiences when I had it at the age of 11 and 12, I had no problem. But this time, I don?t know why but I feel scared to reject him. Is it because I have feelings for him? But is he joking or serious? I?m so confused now. by the way, im only 17, a secondary student and he is 22, a university student!!! our age is like such a big gap... also, I have no confident that he really likes me. I'm in doubt coz I dont think I'm pretty at all.there are more girls who are much better than me so now I'm wondering why does he likes me? maybe he is joking again? but he sound quite serious... I'M SO CONFUSED! so now my situation is like i want but i cant. talk to my parents? i don think so, it's too difficult coz i never talk this kind of stuff to them. i also think that he might have said i love you without meaning it but by accident? what does it mean? how can someone said that by accident?

  61. Resolved Question: Home School or Public School done at home?
  62. 17 Feb 2008 at 7:22am
I am asking this question due to my frustration at seeing so many repeat questions asked in the home school section concerning public school done at home or distance learning. I hope the answers to this question will help educate and inform those who are confused about these terms. I know that each state has their own laws so this may be part of my confusion and frustration. In our state, home school is totally separate from public school. Our public school has programs that their students can take online and have tutors who take work to home bound students. Can anyone explain why these two different types of schooling are viewed by the general public as the same type of education? I appreciate the answers. I'm not putting down any of the public 'at home' programs or the students who study that way. It just seems unreal the amount of questions that are posed in the home school section concerning public school programs. It would be like me going to the public school section of Y!A and asking if my son should study biology in the 9th grade or 10th grade or use the block system for scheduling. We, homeschoolers, do not know what programs are available for Mercer County or if they can graduate with 2 credits of math. I am not a purest. I work for the public schools. I appreciate all the programs they are creating to help students learn in the best way for each student. It is just that people do not seem to understand, at least here on Y!A the difference between government sponsored public school and parent sponsored home school.

  69. Resolved Question: Do you believe the global economy will be the end of the A...
  70. 17 Feb 2008 at 7:00am
With so many American jobs going overseas to the poorest countries and the value of the American dollar dropping and probably a bunch of other important factors I'm neglecting to mention, I fear Americans' standard of living is being forced down because to some extent we are being forced to compete with countries like China where people work for something like $2/day. I consider myself extremely fortunate that I got a decent job with good pay, but it took YEARS despite a ton of education and experience. I think we're headed back to something like the days of the robber barons that led to unions & child labor laws because workers needed serious protection from corporations. If we have a global economy, wouldn't it naturally follow that American standards of living will have to come into some kind of alignment with standards of living around the world? So, (1) is American middle class going to disappear? And (2) Will middle class America end up like typical 3rd world people? So, (1) is American middle class going to disappear? And (2) Will middle class America end up like typical 3rd world people? Factors I might have mentioned: unbridled corporate greed manifesting in diminishing customer care, diminishing respect for employees, increased immorality (e.g., Enron, Worldcom, Tyco, etc.)

  73. Resolved Question: How would you further enrich your life?
  74. 17 Feb 2008 at 6:05am
You got 10 points to add value to your life. How would you divide the 10 points between these items? - Beauty (or external look for men) - Money - Love - Education The total should be 10. 10 out of 10 is outstanding (e.g. aishwarya in beauty ..etc) You might give some points to someone else (e.g. sister, friend, spouce)

  76. 17 Feb 2008 at 5:10am
did your parents undermine everything you were doing, and prevent your success and education, did your parents, never grow, but remained in the same dead end lives they choose, and always threw the fact up to you that they were your parents, and gave you life, any people here who have or had parents, who underminded your life, and so messed you up that you could do nothing as an adult,

  79. Resolved Question: Should the MURDER of a 15yr old GAY school boy be acceptab...
  80. 17 Feb 2008 at 5:00am
A 15 yr old boy shot in the head by a fellow pupil at school on Tuesday (this week) because the victim was gay! Lawrence King, who was reportedly openly gay, was shot twice while in class at a junior high school in Oxnard, California. USA. A fourteen-year-old boy, has been arrested and charged with the homophobically motivated murder. Ventura County prosecutors said the killing was a premeditated hate crime and the killer would be charged as an adult. The Los Angeles Times reports: "Several students said King and a group of boys, including the defendant, had a verbal confrontation concerning King's sexual orientation a day before the killing." Adults knew of the homophobic bullying, but did nothing to prevent or curb it. Children should be safe in schools:- Homophobia in education establishments must be zero tolerrated. 81. Voting Question: Where can I study Computer Forensics?
  82. 17 Feb 2008 at 4:51am
I am interested in pursing an education in computer forensics. However, I am having a hard time finding someplace that offers the program that is NOT online. I have already contacted Devry and they want me to go there for 2 yrs (i have my AA and have completed my upper GE at Cal State Fullerton... seems unreasonable; esp for 40 grand). Anyone know of anywhere else I may contact for info of any kind regarding an education in computer forensics??? I live in California, Los Angeles- somewhere near this area would be nice. Thanks to all who reply! :)

  83. Resolved Question: Don't you think it sucks...?
  84. 17 Feb 2008 at 4:46am
The way the humanities and most of the social sciences are really underrated nowadays? I mean up until around the 1980s (my estimate), majors such as Theater Arts, Literature, Art Studies, Foreign Languages, Linguistics, International Studies, Education, Sociology, Political Science and the like were on par with today's more popular majors such as Computer Engineering, Nursing, Information Technology, Accountancy and Business Administration? Every year I encounter less and less humanities and social science majors, and it sucks to think of this, seeing as I am a Literature major myself. If nobody does anything soon, my kind will soon be extinct. :( Anyone have any idea as to why these fields are becoming progressively more ignored? @ TzTokJad - I don't really believe so; the written and communication skills gained, as well as the understanding of other people and cultures are pretty important, especially considering we live in a "borderless world" nowadays. @ dondon - YOU have no use in the real world. :) @ Gary C - I know many people who have taken liberal arts majors and know full well that the classifieds rarely feature jobs specifically demanding their major. But then again a whole lot of them have the connections and the drive and will most certainly land a successful career as whatever in the future. It's a total fallacy that your course or your college/uni (for that matter) will directly determine your future. My whole family is full of people who graduated with popular majors yet did not achieve much success. I'd run the list down but I don't have much space. :) Again, it's not really your major which will determine your future. As long as you have connections, a good skillset, a decent learning curve, and good PR and marketing skills (meaning you know how to market yourself during the job interview), you'll make it big, no matter what you graduated with. I feel sorry for you and your kind; you're pretty misguided. Oh, and BTW, I'm using my Lit degree as a pre-law, so, HA. OK, fine, I'll run the list down, anyway. :P My uncle was an Industrial Engineering major from a reputable university; however, he did not get to practice his degree and spent the majority of his adult life doing odd jobs. He is now in San Diego, managing a retirement home. My other uncle was a Biology major and wanted to be a doctor. However, my grandparents couldn't afford med school and HE spent most of HIS adult life overseas, as a secretary in Saudi Arabia. My cousin and her husband are both Physical Therapy majors and wanted to emigrate to the States to practice medicine. However, they are stuck here in the Philippines and currently work as call center agents. My other cousin is a Management major but also worked in a call center. His sister took up Theatre, majored in Production Design, and now works in a hotel, as part of External Affairs. My own mother was a Communications major but works in a bank. A friend's father majored in Philosophy but is a basketball coach.

  99. Resolved Question: My mother looks older than her age...?
  100. 17 Feb 2008 at 2:46am
I personally believe that my mother looks older than her age. And this breaks my heart. I think her wrinkles and drooping eyes were partitally due to the hard life she lived earlier. My father used to beat her all the time. She is not a good dresser either. Even though now she makes pretty good money, she is sitll very frugal. Her clothes are cheap, she does not wear make-ups, no jewlry, etc. However, she has been generous to me-- she is paying all my education expenses. My quesion is, if you were me, what would you or could you do to your mother? Thanks!< >
