Why is the ADL so focused on our nation's police? They are an organization which focuses on antisemitism. What's that got to do with law enforcement? http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/6887 http://www.ushmm.org/museum/press/archives/detail.php?category=07-general&content=199 9-11-02 http://www.theiacp.org/documents/index.cfm?document_id=655&document_type_id=6&fuseact ion=document

forced on people in neighborhoods in Jerusalem http://www.israelenews.com/view.asp?ID=2... http://www.todaysthv.com/life/religion/s... a) burn them in the leaf bin. b) make paper mache' menorrha and candlesticks out of them to sell to missionaries. c) use for toilet paper d) make origami Christmas decorations to sell on e-bay. e) re-print corrections to tape into each one and re-distribute. f) line waste paper baskets g) put them all in museums for use by future generations. f) kindly give them back to the missionaries so they can re-use them in their efforts to destroy Judaism. g) read them and embrace Christianity h) others? h) throw in garbage dump. i) ask for better reading material. These are a bit sarcastic, but meant to spur ideas and the question is sincere. How could idolatrous texts be "redeemed" and made into something good? The texts are "New Testaments" with words written in Hebrew and Haggadas in English and Hebrew with Christian messages. Associated Press and the RJU are condeming their being burned as they are sacred religious texts. The question is since they are being leafleted throughout Israel, what should be done? These things are piling up... Phoenix, I like the recycle idea. Socially progressive with little chance of backlash yet halachily correct by not supporting the idolatry. Keepin it Kosher thank you for showing we cannot benefit from idolatry. So, is it possible, then, to "fix" it without getting benefit? Even with some expense? Allonyoa I wondered about that too. What to do with an idol with the Holy Name on it? Probably not right for a Jewish burial. One reason I ask about tikkun for these is I just read about Hassidic melodies in Euorope coming from Cossack dances and Polish military marches or secular waltzes, and rabbis happy to "fix' them so the melody is restored to their religious state by being sung without words as a nigun or with new lyrics. For example, the Kalever Tsadik, Isaac Eizik (Toib) of Kalev (1744-1821), heard a secular love song being sung by a shepherder in the Ukrainian forest. He changed to words to be sung about the Shekinah, and asked the shepherd to sing it again. The young man had forgotten it, so the Hasid exclaimed that he had purified the tune and raised it back to its Holy source. Extending the question over the weekend, and eager to hear from Allonyoav on Iggeros Moshe! Good luck with the Union for Reform Judaism, Mama Pajama! Keep us posted :)

  7. Resolved Question: Are there any decent people left???
  8. 22 May 2008 at 2:48pm
I lost my digital camera at a museum the other day and I'm pretty much devastated. I had it around my wrist one minute and the next it was gone. I searched the entire exhibit and even filed for it at the lost and found. I'm very upset that no one has had the decency to turn it in...then again, it was one of those new Sony Cybershot ones with the touch screen. It cost me a crazy amount of money..and not only that, I had alot of pictures in it that I never got a chance to upload. Please tell me there are people out there with some integrity.

  21. Voting Question: Would you call South Carolina's former treasurer Thomas Rave...
  22. 22 May 2008 at 11:07am
Thomas Ravenel T-Rav the Low Country Cocaine Cowboy By Mr. Chip's, published May 21, 2008 Published Content: 41 Total Views: 769 Favorited By: 1 CPs Contact Subscribe Add to Favorites Rating: 3.0 of 5Currently 3.00/512345 Font Font We all know the story of how a relatively squeaky clean, southern boy, Thomas Ravenel, now former treasurer, Republican, son of controversial Congressman Arthur Ravenel was indicted in June 2007 on federal cocaine charges with a current investigation in progress even as I write this. What you may not know is that I actually had the chance to talk to him by way of one of our local radio talk shows,The Rocky D Show a daily noon program. What did I ask him? "Why won't you or can't you reveal the others in your cocaine involvement?" Prior to being able to speak to him, I like many callers had the opportunity to hear others speak to him and had a chance to hear more of what he had to say about his drug involvement. He was complaining about how people don't like his name Ravenel and it makes him a target for criticism. Of course Rocky D was in very much agreeing with him. He even went as far as to say that people don't like Thomas Ravenel because in a "nut-shell" he's like his dad a good old Southerner with all its trappings. And me not from the South but now I feel I am fairly educated and informed by the so-called all things Confederate have no love lost for Mr. Thomas Ravenel. But before I move ahead let me go back to the question I asked him on the phone on Rocky D's show. Why hasn't he revealed the other "players" in his cocaine involvement? He claims it's because of a on-going investigation. Of course he has been sentenced to 10 months in prison. A light term if you ask me. Even if this was his first drug offense. The guy is a fake. He's an arrogant fake. His family was questioned numerous times about Mr. Ravenels cocaine and drug involvement. And basically they were not forthcoming. They lied and covered up for him. But of course. His dad former Congressman Arthur Ravenel owns a Confederate souvenir shop in Charleston South Carolina. A former Democrat and member of the Moultrie Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans and was "Pro" Confederate flag against its removal from the statehouse on July 1st 2000. Also Ravenel after he switched from the Democratic party to the Republican party in the early 1960's went on to lose 5 straight elections in his state. On top of that his mouth being the good old boy that he is lands him continually in "hot-water" with the NAACP, civil rights groups and even the organization for persons with Disabilities and Special Needs. He once, I am not sure if it was intentional or just because he's an old guy. Referred to the NAACP as the National Association for Retarded People. This could have been an accident we all know too well how the late Senator Strom Thurmond bumbled his speech and put South Carolina on the map many times in ridicule as he moved to centenary age. So maybe it was a mistake. But then with Confederate types and with Confederate stuff that happens in this state and in the South. The former politician may have been trying to get back at the NAACP which initially forced SC and the nation to consider seriously thinking about finally removing the Confederate flag off the statehouse dome. In fact if you recall even our sitting United States President, Bill Clinton and his Vice President Albert Gore asked the state legislature to have it removed. Because it did more harm then good in the state. Of course the NAACP launched a economic boycott which will stay in place until it is finally removed from the grounds near the Confederate soldiers memorial and put in a museum. With all that being said. It was a damnatory revelation when his son, 45 year old, businessman,Citadel graduate with an MBA and the SC Treasurer made news when he was indicted on federal cocaine charges. He was served while he was out dining with friends. The charges allege that he was involved with cocaine through an intermediary in Charleston and his name is public record and recently another intermediary was publicly revealed but he is on the lam according to reports he may be in his home country of Italy, leaving Ravenel and the other intermediary to take the heat and the prison time. Which brings me back to the question I asked him on the Rocky D show: Why doesn't he reveal the other people. Though many have been redacted off his official transcript to the feds he still knows who they are and I am sure he has biographical information on them. In fact me knowing how this place can be. I'll give you a couple of examples. We have a Lieutenant Governor who is a licensed Constable but who numerous times was charged with reckless driving even beyond what I (the writer) was charged with. What happened to him? Well he made SC and the people in it look like a bunch of dumb and ignorant hillbillies. Because our Justice Department and our law enforcement (Highway Patrol and other law enforcement) were not doing their job. And that basically our Lieutenant Governor was just a youngster that really had more time then sense. Secondly refer back to Thomas Ravenel. We have a current Judge Jean Toal who serves on the bench issuing out judgments but who numerous times has been involved in hit and run accidents. And this stupid and moronic southerner leaves the scene of the crimes and has the nerve to explain that she was not aware or did not see anything wrong with her actions. And I could go on and on perhaps in my next opinion installment on associated content. But to get back to why I don't believe that T-Rav ( a current moniker from the college and younger crowd) is going to "dime" out his fellow players in his cocaine involvemet. Number one I know he's scared. He even told me on the Rocky D show he doesn't know if it would take time off his sentence to reveal them and I don't think he cared. Number two in the back of mind according to a news article that was done on him in THE State paper (A news source in Columbia SC) some of the other people at the so-called cocaine parties may be prominent individuals or connected to prominent people in all types of white collar circles of socio-economic-political and business and so on. Only time will reveal. In the meanwhile we all await Thomas Ravenel's fate and I sure his dad does too. Thomas Ravenel

  39. Resolved Question: Work Experience?
  40. 22 May 2008 at 3:36am
In Guidence we've just had a whole lesson on Work Experience and I asked my teacher if there are any placements in Universities, cos I'm interested in Paleontology and becoming a Paleontologist and the three fields I know of in that area of work are, on the field which doesn't pay much, Natural History Museum and there aren't any of them in my area and University Proffessor and that's perfect for me as there's definitely Universities in my area. I just want to know though, if I did choose to do my Work Experience at a University, what exactly would I be doing cos I know for certain I won't be teaching? I can get placement in a Uni, I want to get a job in a Uni, so why the hell would I get work placement in an office.

  43. Voting Question: Should a marine museum have a display or something of the me...
  44. 22 May 2008 at 2:45am
My local marine museum is a lot about the boats new and old on our local lake (Lake Winnipeg) Lake Winnipeg is mostly used for commercial fishing (people also have cottages on the lake). There was almost no display about the many men who have died in storms and such when they were out fishing on the lake. There have been many who have died and a big commercial fishing ship went down in 1964 called "The Suzanne E" and 9 people died, it was the biggest disaster of the lake and it was hardly mentioned in the museum!! How can I get them to see they need some sort of a display or dedication to the men who have died? All they had was 3 pieces from the boat and a thing that said people died and they didn't even have the date right. I would think that a marine museum would have something about the many boats that have sunk and the lives lost. Is it just me? What do you think? What can I do to get them to put up some display to let people know many men died fishing on the lake?

  45. Resolved Question: Theists (and cynics) what is your opinion about this event?
  46. 22 May 2008 at 1:48am
Yesterday I decided to start putting out the word to some potential clients that I'm starting my own business. I fully committed to it yesterday after my boss did some extremely unethical things. So, anyway, I'm walking my dog last night through the local city park with all of the museums and cool stuff. The nutjob tarot card reading lady (who I have absolutely no association with) got up from her portable table and ran over to me. She said, "You're having trouble with your boss and you're going to start your own business!" I don't know this lady, she doesn't know me. I only told a few potential clients about the business thing, and they most certainly would have nothing to do with this lady. I have absolutely no freakin' idea what the Hell that was about, but it stunned me speechless. If somebody is messin' with me, they are really, really, REALLY good. Me - agnostic, cynic to the core and a little weirded out And I hate to say it, but this is 100% true. It's not like my life is changed or anything. It was about the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me and I have had an extremely weird life. You have no idea. I basically figure that it might have been that 'lottery' chance. I'd rather win the lotto than have some tarot card reader freak me out. She just said that I would do very well. No advice. I don't think it's supernatural, I just think it's weird. Yeah, she's seen me before, but we've never talked. I always walk alone and have always steered clear of her. It is weird, but whatever.

I noticed this on my way to work as I walk near there everyday. I found museum quality crystals and donated them to my towns natural history exibit through the historical society in my town. The pile of rubble had been moved by the constuction comp. that was installing the track. I called the rail line to tell them that there are more extreemly unstable cavities on this embankment ( wich has again collapsed in the spot they fixed) They just brushed me off like!!!!!!! 51. Resolved Question: question on 'Swastika' and its misunderstandings?
  52. 21 May 2008 at 11:05pm
i realized that Swastika (?) is one of the oldest necklaces that was excavated in Iran in the 1st millennium BCE. this necklace is currently presented at National Museum in Iran: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9b/Swastika_iran.jpg now on the web it says, In Germanic countries, examples of identical shapes in ancient European artifacts and in folk art were interpreted as emblems of good-luck linked to the Indo-Iranian meaning. years later, Adolf Hitler and the national socialists decided to go with this symbol of which they probably had an idea of origin. and that's why it's most known as the "Nazi sign" now, looking at those pictures, it has been like a symbolic holy sign in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism (note the Aryan culture/people, where Persia and Germany come from) if you have any other information about this symbol and its origin please do let us here know. for sure if i said that back in my jewish high school in Canada, i would get nothing but killed! here are more pics to prove: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/63/HinduSwastika.svg http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/8/8b/180px-Amiens-pavement-swasti ka.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/27/KunaFlagMola.jpg http://www.answers.com/topic/matildemoisant-jpg-1 http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/e/ec/Buddhistswastika.jpg Boreyko coat of arms: http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/9/96/Herb_Boreyko.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fd/Snoldelevsunwheel.jpg

  53. Resolved Question: What happened to the paper cranes Sadako made?
  54. 21 May 2008 at 10:08pm
I found part of her story online, but can't find anything as to what happened to the 1000+ paper cranes she made before she died. Were they given to family members or given to a museum? Or have they been destroyed by time? I would feel terrible if all her work was destroyed by time or worse. :-( Thank you so much for answering. Peace.

  60. 21 May 2008 at 8:55pm
Its my brother, not me. My parents want to drag him on a trip to see museums, and he hates museums. Its me who wants to see the museums, and I feel horrible that he's being forced to go. No partying, no drugs, good grades, very responsible. Never even been in trouble except for nitpicky things. My parents have no reason not to trust him. Basically makes me look bad.

  61. Resolved Question: I'm sure a lot of you are seeing the irrationality of this:?
  62. 21 May 2008 at 8:21pm
There have been a few posts tonight asking, for instance: Why aren't American Indians 'also' having museums to commemorate their lost ones, like Jews do? There is a MASSIVE flaw in this reasoning and the way the posts are being worded: Why are JEWS being asked why OTHER groups who have ALSO suffered terribly, DON'T build museums etc? Jews are not STOPPING other groups from also keeping the memory alive of what happened to their people! Why are Jews being asked why American Indians don't have a museum? What, Jews are now responsible for commemorating and memorialising that - surely that's for American Indians to do? And yes, I totally agree, they have suffered DREADFULLY. But there's no logic in asking Jews about the plans of other groups to memorialise their lost ones - we aren't stopping them from doing anything!!! 'jac' - oh, what's this 'clout' we have, then? And why are you demanding that Jews specifically do something - shouldn't we ALL be doing something?

  66. 21 May 2008 at 8:04pm
Why does the Shoah, or Holocaust, cause a greater outrage than the systematic extermination of Native Americans by white European settlers and conquerors in the Americas? Tens of millions were either massacred or enslaved to death, and I don't see anyone actually building a museum of the American Indian Shoah, holding a Remembrance Day or something like that... Mind you, by no means do I deny the Holocaust and my heart is with all those whose lives were either cut down too early or destroyed forever by those intolerant Nazi monsters and their collaborators...(yes, Poles, Dutch, Italians, French and Germans) It's just that, when I raise this subject with Jews, they take it quite nonchalantly, whereas the Holocaust cuts deep, even in younger generations.... Is it because of the photographs?? Paperback Writer: Chill out a bit, will you? I'm talking about the general outrage that this issue causes on everyone, not only on Jews (which is completely comprehensible and obvious). I'm sorry, but you sound a tad too intolerant, for a Jew.

I am not fluent in Italian, and am very interested to relax and spend some time in museums and to admire local architecture. Are there certain areas that I should stay away from? Do you have any travel suggestions for me?
