Here's a diagram of the Rhythm Blues (make sure you see the ice pattern as the roller pattern is on top.

You might check out these diagrams too . . . he tried to revised them from the rulebook so they look nicer. See under Rhythm Blues.

I personally learned steps better if I saw them visually on a layout - like on a diagram. Hope that helps!
Do you mean Rhythm and Blues? That marketing term was coined post-WWII (replacing the older label of race records) to describe any popular music made by/for predominantly African-Americans. The genre is extremely broad in an historic sense: what do Louis Jordan (one of the pioneers) and Lil Wayne have in common musically? I must note that the genre usually does not include jazz or gospel numbers unless these become extremely popular.
The Wikipedia entry on Rhythm and Blues is fairly well written, so I'd recommend it as a springboard for your research; for a more in-depth look at the music, try Sweet Soul Music: Rhythm and Blues and the Southern Dream of Freedom by Peter Guralnick (music historian who is best known for his research and writings on the Memphis scene, especially Sun and Stax/Volt records).
No thanks
I always get hand-me-downs.
tell me about it. its all in the name of money...music will never be what it used to be. we have a few exceptions of people who know what music is but boy, this is how we know we are getting old, when they try to call it modern RB, take us back to the days of Stevie all the way back...
Got your email-
So many, I don't know where to start......
Ok, here's one for now. Nina Simone-I Hold No Grudge. I believe it is on High Priestess Of Soul, I'll have to double check. Every time I pull that record off the shelf, I end up playing this track over and over and over. Usually accompanied by several cocktails. I will post/email some more suggestions as I think of them.
Yes, the song is on High Priestess of Soul
ok, I know that BRASS CONSTRUCTION has some stuff,BOOKER T and THE MG'S,JAMES BROWN BAND-JB'S,KOOL AND THE GANG(Summer Madness),THE FUNK BROTHERS(MOTOWN SOUND),BILLY PRESTON,thats all I can really think of
Here's a start....
#1 rb hits from 42-59
I live in the Jackson area, and it's been awhile since I've heard anything about Chunky. I mean, the town is still there but I guess the festival just died out. Easy to get there from here, too, right along Interstate 20.
Last year, down in Crystal Springs, there was supposed to be a Robert Johnson Blues Festival with Johnny Winter and Rory Block as headliners, but nothing came of it.
I guess Clarksdale is all that's left but hey, it's in the Delta and it's not as messy as trying to go to Memphis in May (once was enough to see a copy of the New Orleans Jazz Fest.)
no. consider instead practically anything that was released on Stax Records...
Every time I get bummed out from the crap spewing forth on the air waives under the guise of RB, I simply dial up one of the greats, like Otis, or Wilson, or my main men, Sam Dave. Now THAT is RB:

Yes that is true RB is not the same as Blues
People also think that Blues and Jazz are the same
its true that Jazz and RB did come from the blues,,,,but it aint the same
I agree.
Rhythm....most RB music gets it from a keyboard today. In my opinion, rhythm is something you get from a drummer. How can using a keyboard be considered a talent?
And as for Ray Charles, I would consider his music soul music....with some gospel mixed in.
I believe I can fly.....I don't feel like dancing when I hear it either. I feel like throwing up. RB sucks. It should be called PV.....puke and vomit.
oops you want the affects. i was gonna list the effects used to create the music.
Jerry Wexler at Billboard Magazine in 1947. The musical style was originally called race music or black music both deemed offensive even as far ago as 1947. RCA Victor used the term Blues Rhythm but the popular version was used by Atlantic Records
Lots of emotion and dont be afraid to practice phrasing and dynamics and add your ATTITUDE TO THE SONG. RB is just a more popular form of blues basically?
Edit: It was just a split second thought not exactly a life long belief lol. Glad I could help:)
Its my understanding that black slaves would sing in the fields while they were working, or after work at the end of the day, to keep morale high. I think this is the precursor for much of modern Rhythm and Blues music.
Something like maybe some Purple Black with a little blue! And I agree with the first answerer, Indigo is a good color.
Red is quite a drama color. Black is sexy, Purple is pretty blue is cool relaxing. Thats basically what RB is!
Yellow is happy, Green is mean, Pink is playful more for the Pop music, Brown is ugly boring, Orange is too bright of a color,White is nothing.
Stick to the cool soft colors. Nothing bright, drama, happy or anything like that.
But, if you ask for my opinion, save red for Rap maybe Hip-Hop type of music!
Southern Rock
