  1. Resolved Question: Do you like Phil Collins?
  2. 15 Feb 2008 at 2:11pm
I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.

  5. Resolved Question: who is the most underrated and overrated vocalist ever?
  6. 11 Feb 2008 at 9:56pm
a guy/gal who people have said have terrible voices or can't sing for their life, but you think they're good...and a guy/gal who's been said to have the voice of God, but you just can't agree after hearing them for me: underrated- tom petty...the man is a songwriting genius and a very bright critic of the music world first and foremost, but i think he can really sing, he's got a range comparable with some of the best to ever live...people think he can't sing because his voice has that southern twang, but i think he's exceptionally talented overrated- robert plant...i'm not saying he sounds terrible, but many people have him among the greatest ever when to me he only really has high notes in him for the most part...his natural voice is not impressive to me at all what do you think? sorry try to incorporate only real music, not fob, hannah montana, etc.-related answers please read the additional details, and also the forum you're answering in no top 40, no mainstream pop, none of that

  7. Voting Question: Calling ALL songwriters/poets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
  8. 11 Feb 2008 at 9:23pm
My friend asked me to write him lyrics to song so he can put music to them. I was feeling really creative earlier today, but for now I think the well's run dry. So, if you guys have any ideas of how to get inspiration for songwriting, it would really help me out alot.

  11. Resolved Question: Songwriting/Composing?
  12. 10 Feb 2008 at 6:34pm
Okay, so me and my friend were going to think about starting a band. The only problem is, we can't write or compose songs. Are there any software programs or anything to help us write and compose songs for the following: Drum Set Synthesizer/Keyboard Guitar Bass Guitar Vocal Those are the parts we're going to have in our band. Are there any good songwriting/composing tools that we could use to just write a few songs? Thanks for everyone's help.

  13. Resolved Question: Ciara wasn't Nominated for a Grammy?
  14. 10 Feb 2008 at 8:58am
I've seen questions asked....who was cheated out of Grammy Nomination?....like It's just Absolutely Ridiculous And we won't even talk about the Soulja Boy Nomination for SONGWRITING!!! In My Very Strong Opinion, "Promise" by Ciara is like the Best R&B Song to have been released the whole nomination Year ...which was 10/1/06-9/30/07 This makes me wonder if "Never" by Jaheim will get looked over next year...THAT is the Best R&B song to have been been released in the Past 5 Yrs.!!!! Another thing I'm confused about is Raheem Devaughn getting nominated for "Woman"....The Album came out last month! and that single had not been in play before 9/30/07...as proud as I am that REAL Music Got through...How did He get Nominated? Let Me know what U folks think. Who Do think got looked over?

  15. Resolved Question: Would anyone like to join a writer's forum?
  16. 10 Feb 2008 at 1:05am
http://writersworld.freeforums.org/ I couldn't help but notice that there were no good writer's forums on the internet, so I started one of my own. We have everything from General Fiction to Songwriting. All we need now is more members. Join, tell a friend or five. Secondary question: do you have any comments, questions or suggestions for me?

  17. Resolved Question: Songwriting career?
  18. 9 Feb 2008 at 5:39pm
I want to become a songwriter. I mean, technically I am because I have hundreds of song lyrics that are really good, but I mean accomplished, lol. When do I need to contact a lawyer? Any good links? What is the recommended format for songwriting? How do I sell my music?

  19. Resolved Question: Favourite Hatebreed songs?
  20. 7 Feb 2008 at 6:25am
Bad Brains. Madball. Agnostic Front. Black Flag. Minor Threat. Sick Of It All. Integrity. I've just listed the true legends of hardcore. But oh my, I missed one. Hatebreed. While the above bands all cemented their reputation as hardcore's pioneers, there's been only one group that has deserved comparison. The evolution of hardcore has obviously changed over the years, and the leaders of the newer-school brand of HC are without a doubt Hatebreed. They've been going strong since the mid 90's and continue to make magnificent, flawless music. Their undeniable passion is inspirational and testament to their reputation. They've never lost any of their brutality and heaviness, although some may argue that "Rise Of Brutality" was a step back in creativeness in regards to both the music and the songwriting. But they've always stayed true to the genre, and have amassed a colossal fanbase all over the world. Okay I've rambled long enough. What are Hatebreed's best songs in your opinion?

  21. Resolved Question: So what's the verdict on BFMV's new album?
  22. 7 Feb 2008 at 5:49am
As we all are aware of, Wales' finest, Bullet For My Valentine have come blistering back into the metal scene with their sophomore album "Scream Aim Fire". Any sort of emo-type label people have slapped on this band can be torn off as of now. This album is simply metal. The vocals are stronger, riffs are tighter and heavier, solos even sharper and faster. Everything about the music has been jacked up a few tweaks, bringing a fuller, thrashier sound to the melodic metalcore image they cemented with The Poison. They have grown up, grown their hair and reinvented themselves both musically and personally (as the latter is shown in the songwriting). I strongly, strongly recommend you listen to this album if you're a metal fan, there's something for everybody. If you've been unsure about Bullet For My Valentine in the past, give this a chance. They have changed. On that note, have you heard it? What is your opinion of the new Bullet? Do you agree with me or not? Give me your thoughts.

  23. Resolved Question: GNR Fans - What Do You Think Of Velvet Revolver?
  24. 6 Feb 2008 at 5:41pm
Libertad kicked ass. They seem like a genuine band. But do you think that Axl and his songwriting (as well as Izzy) are always going to be the factors that keeps them being a 'good' band and not a 'great' band. Thoughts...? PS I quite like Weiland, i respect him. What do you think of him?

  33. Resolved Question: What do you think about my songwriting?
  34. 4 Feb 2008 at 4:10pm
OK, well this is the first song I've tried to write. Not alot yet but just an idea. Constructive critisism please because I know it's not very good. It's about the girl that I like, and there is no tune to it yet. Life isn't always what we want it to be But when I'm with you, it's good enough for me We don't always get all the things that we want But if I end up with you it's worth it when it's done I don't know how to say it I don't know what to do I just want you to know That I really love you You might not know it But it is true I really want to be with you

  35. Resolved Question: Is there religious tolerance in Canada? What do you think ...
  36. 3 Feb 2008 at 9:03am
The article: Jan. 28, 2008 Beauty queen rejected as pageant judge http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/297985 An excerpt: [Stephanie] Conover, who was crowned winner of the Miss Canada Plus Pageant last year, said she was recently invited to be a judge at the Miss Toronto Tourism pageant on Feb. 2. "I said I'd definitely be there," Conover told the Star yesterday. "Then, last week, on Monday, they asked me for a biography. I told them everything I do, how I'm an entertainer and a singer and a dancer. I talked about my charity work and I said I also have hobbies, including songwriting, knitting, painting, yoga, reiki and tarot cards." That's where things got sticky. "We just got her bio a week ago and we don't agree with it," said Karen Murray, Miss Toronto Tourism pageant director. "We want someone down to earth, not someone into the dark side or the occult." More excerpt: "We need a judge who has an upright reputation and we would be proud to introduce to the audience," noted a Jan. 24 letter to the Miss Canada Plus group from Murray and another official with the Miss Toronto Tourism pageant. "Our board of directors has eliminated her as a judge as tarot card reading and reiki are the occult and is not acceptable by God, Jews, Muslims or Christians. Tarot card reading is witchcraft and is used by witches, spiritists and mediums to consult the dark world." The letter went on to quote a couple of passages from the Bible, including one from the book of Leviticus that warns, "Do not turn to mediums or seek out spirits for you will be defiled by them." "We hope that Stephanie Conover will turn from these belief systems and will repent from her practice of them," the letter reads. Cabrobst: The rejected beauty queen is suing. The rest of you: Well, okay, if most of Canada is tolerant, what the hell happened in this case? They're a tourist agency for Pete's sake. What do they want, a non-Christian boycott of Toronto? Oblivion: Is this a pageant that is *only* broadcast on a religious network or something?

  43. Resolved Question: in most bands, does one person do all the songwriting?

Or do most members contribute their own stuff. For example, does the bassist usually come up with his/her own bass lines, or would that typically be the songwriter

  45. Resolved Question: PLEASE tell me why Coldplay is CONSTANTLY compared to Radi...
  46. 28 Jan 2008 at 10:30pm
I don't give a DAMN if Coldplay was inspired by them; EVERYONE has inspiration from something other than themselves, musically. Both bands have a singer with a melancholy voice (RH more so) but Coldplay is all about ballads and Radiohead is about self-realization and sadder stuff. IMO Coldplay is better thus far; better instrumentation, WAY better vocals, the songwriting sometimes is on par, but I think CP takes it cause many of their songs are uplifting. Anyway, why the actual comparisons when they barely sound alike and come from different cores, I suppose is the right word; total differnet vein? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqsyXdj_p_I&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9j_RZDqYc4 BIG DIFFERENCES!! Not yet. I've heard Fake Plastic Trees, Creep?, No Surprises ? and Karma Police which is OK, but the video is? I will listen to The Eraser tomorrow morning when I pick best answer. It's funny because Coldplay get bashed for not being as heavy and being unoriginal for "copying" their so-damn-distant sound. I don't get it! It's MADDENING to me! Leagues apart. :)

  47. Resolved Question: how do I go pro with my songwriting?
  48. 28 Jan 2008 at 9:40am
O.k,I'm not the arrogant type and I'm not over-confident. But i've been songwrinting for 5 years now and I really think I'm good enough to go pro. I'm in my 1st year in college and i hate the course so i wanna get going really soon. The basic idea is i'm a singer/sonwriter my songs are kinda Indie-pop but with a lot more rock than your standard indie-pop outfit. I don't have a band. I recorded a demo with sampled drums like 6 months ago. Lisen to my songs you might get a better idea of what i should do. : http://vinylmesh.tk (These are only the bones of the songs.and they're only 4 of like 70 songs i have.also my singing has improved a lot since then) Anyway what should i do next? I'm not looking to sell my songs...i wanna perform.I've been trying to form a band for the last 3 years and i'm not getting anywhere.I'm thinking maybe if i get a deal or a manager then i could hold auditions and make a really good band....Is this wise?

  55. Resolved Question: What is songwriting?
  56. 24 Jan 2008 at 10:51am
I'm a gifted poet and music lover. I don't play any instruments but I can create music just humming or singing (but I'm not a good singer either, just good enough for karaoke). I'm interested in songwriting for a hobby...how is it done? Does it have to have a tune or just the lyrics? Thanks. Psychedelic: Wow, that is a good one! I'd like to know if songwriting is just lyrics or is it supposed to be tune(notes) and lyrics? Thanks narcisog.

  57. Resolved Question: HELP! I need some advice...?
  58. 24 Jan 2008 at 1:44am
Ok, here it is: I am seventeen years old and I'll be turning eighteen in August. You know how society is, as soon as you turn eighteen -- you're an adult and you have to 'fend for yourself'. I dropped out school [it's a looooong story; can't explain] and I'm going for my GED. Now, I plan on going to college but I have ABSOLUTELY no idea on what to major in because I'm not quite sure on what I want to do with my life. My dream is to be in the entertainment industry [acting, dancing, modeling, songwriting & fashion design]. Now, my mom tells me I should go to college to having something to fall back on while I pursue my dreams. The problem is, I dunno what TO fall back on. Aside from show biz, I'm also interested in internet journalism [gossip blogging], make up artistry and opening up my own fashion boutique with my own original designs. I could really use some GOOD advice because I'm going insane not knowing what the heck I wanna do. Help! [I may add more details] Should I try to get into the entertainment industry, becoming a gossip columnist [by starting my own blog] OR wait and see what happens? HELP!

  62. 22 Jan 2008 at 3:28am
www.myspace.com/compasscharlatan I wrote some of these songs when I was drunk in my basement. Actually I think I recorded them when I was a little drunk too. But anyway, I would appreciate any feedback on the vocals, melody, lyrics, flow of the song, etc... I really have no idea about songwriting except from what I listened to all my life (springsteen, Dylan, Bright Eyes, Josh Ritter, The Cure, The beatles) just to name a few.... If you could add some tips on anything you feel could be improved I would greatly appreciate it. But mostly, what was your first reaction to the songs? That would be very helpful to me, in trying to write new, and hopefully more advanced songs.

  63. Voting Question: I'm considering naming my son Lyric?
  64. 21 Jan 2008 at 4:27pm
I'm 7 months pregnant with my late husbands son. It is mine and his first child and the loss of my husband during the fragile time was devastating. I considered naming my son after him but my husband hated is own name, which was Art Douglas, so I decided that he wouldn't want me to do that. By day my husband was an electrician but by night he was a songwriter. He wrote some of the most beautiful songs. I think that naming our son Lyric would be taking a little piece of my husband and putting into my unborn son. However, I have my doubts as to how soceity would look upon such a different name. So please any opinions on the name Lyric? Any other names that you can think of that have to do with songwriting? To the people that asked: My husband had lupus and over the course of about 3 months it killed him.

    A. Acknowledge the original singers and writers of the song, and accept that the newest version of the song is just a cover of the older one. B. Say that the older version of the song is a trick of the devil meant to lead people away from believing in the songwriting abilities of the artist who claims to have written it? Does this same train of thought apply to your religious beliefs? (example: http://www.messiahtruth.com/psalms.html) Sorry about the link, the ) at the end messed it up. what i trying to get at was that after the hardships of the second world war the first world comfort and freedom that we in the uk enjoy has degraded us and somehow we lost our spirit, the last 3 lines are about how the troops we send to iraq are no longer dying to protect their own homeland but the interests of another country (not neccesarily iraq's) theres bottles and vagrants on every street theres boards on every door and the bands who are playing in those empty clubs i just dont know any more its been a long time since our beacon grew dim and we lost our way in the dark and its been a long time since the waters grew deep and i missed my place on the ark rule rule britannia brittania ruled the waves but too long its been since the holywood life has turned you to servants and slaves theres young girls made mothers not women themselves who dont know theyre left from they're right and our young men are sent to the desert to die but its not for they're country they fight

  85. Resolved Question: Why does this always happen?
  86. 10 Jan 2008 at 11:10pm
If a boy likes me, they never tell me. I can tell sometimes by their body language or (rarely) their friends come up to me and tell me. I'm getting really sick of it. Especially the perverted guys who want to have sex. By the way, I'm in the 8th grade. 8th graders want to have sex. I'm sorry, but to me, that's just..sick In my opinion I'm just wondering why they never tell me if they like me; the boy I used to like just got a girlfriend and I'm pretty sure that he liked me, but.. huh. Oh well, back to songwriting..

The 'Slice my fingers' is meant for playing guitar.. most peoples fingers bleed when they play guitar a lot. Thanks everyone, though.

I would like to pursue a career in songwriting. I'd like to write country music. But I don't know where to begin. I have a few questions. How much money do songwriters make? Do you have to know how to play an instrument? Do you have to write the music, or can you just write the lyrics? Also, I have no idea where to begin, where do you send your lyrics to? And can songwriters eventually become singers? Is it easier to become a songwriter, and break into the indstry, then become a singer? Please Help!!!!!!!!< >
