they don't. If they do, its a cultural thing and may reflect gender roles in the larger society as a whole.
Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Scripps have very good music programs--and a wide range of other academics.
During a time when men ranked dominant over all life....women were left out of the history books. Im sure their are women who made music during this era.....but its gonna be very hard to come by. Look at the bible, only a few women in the bible were depicted as heroes.....while there were many men. The role of women during this era was probably to sleep with the musicians or feed them......sorry to say. But im sure there were a few inspired women of this time who dared to be different,........keep looking
Don Imus was taken down by those he helped create. The modern media. They say stupid shit without doing the research. Imus did that on occasion. I totally agree with what you are saying. I don't beleive Imus should have been fired...when there is garbage like this in all genres of music. It is not just rap!
I KNEW it was you Mike T, the moment I saw the random Caps words... Anyway, I think that, rather than punching their fists through glass or smashing a beer can on their forehead, women tend to express their anger in creative ways (I said 'tend', I'm aware that there are women who express themselves in destructive ways). EDIT: R. Gaspari. Tell me, is there anything that you don't feel is the product of modern Feminism? I notice that, almost all of your answers include that: This is the product of modern Feminism. Was Hurricane Gustav a result of modern Feminism? Are dodo birds extinct because of modern feminism? Tell me, why do fools fall in love? Is it because of modern feminism??
Well, i believe this could relate to the us Them dicotomy in the way that such a dicotomy creates tunnel vision and allows only a certain path of thinking. So, the rappers are not only oppresing themselves, they are creating a standard of conformity of social expectation that also traps themselves. I realize that hooks isn't a very big fan of homosexual men, but here is one example: homophobia is gender enforcement. you're not acting like a 'real man' so you must be gay Many heterosexual men fear their sexual orientation every being called into question and thus avoid certain activities, mannerisms, or expressions. there are standards of man-gender. Likewise the standard set by the rapper images may limit men in what activities, mannerisms, or expressions they feel they are allowed to engage in. (and yes, their are women rappers ^_~)
Wow, using the internet to cheat.
NO, I think that the latinas are much prettier. I mean, come on, the ghetto *ss shake.....it's old! Belly dancing is coming back, and in a way that's sorta how the latinas dance. They move their hips, turn in circles, ultimately using more ab muscles....so that's my answer.
I have often wondered this myself. Personally, I don't listen to anything anti-woman, but a lot of girls clearly do. What about that Eminem song where he's killing his wife in front of his little girl? Ugh, I really waited for the women of the world to come out against him, and a few did....but most did not. I think it must be a problem of measuring benefits. The girls each judge that the loss of popularity, and perhaps dates, that they would experience, is too high a cost to bear for objecting to sexist lyrics. If all the other girls objected, too, it would be fine, but they don't want to be singled out. The other option is that they really DON'T care, which frankly terrifies me. I shudder at the thought of my little girl going to Junior High school and learning that her place in the world is to smile weakly when a popular rap song degrades her - or else, be shunned by her friends.
Heres what I would do: Make a video compilation of different videos that show women either being abused or used as sex objects in different music videos and use music from different songs that abuse women and maybe have the lyrics shown under the video
If the guy is a good dancer face to face is more fun to me, but if he's not really good at it, backing it up works better. Face to face a guy has to know how to hold you and both partners have to be able to 'hit a groove'. It takes more coordination to feel good and look good.
Rap music is teaching men to a. get girls pregnant b. desert them c. accept no responsibility d. create a tax burden for the rest of us
By My Side from Godspell---beautiful song if you need a stronger song---bosum buddies from Mame is great
That's kinda scary, I didn't know there was different music you could play for different body types to make people buy stuff. I'll have to be more careful to listen the next time I go shopping so I don't wind up spending lots of money just because I like the music! Thanks for the tip, PT
Best question on Y!A yet! I've been wondering that for YEARS! Why any woman would listen to that is beyond me. I've never listened to it even when I was in high school. Actually, I wouldn't even date a guy who DID listen to it. To me if he could enjoy that kind of talk (or rap) going on then that was just to iffy for me. I have nothing against rap in general, just the type that is grossly violent or about women being just something to do and that's it. Thanks for bringing this up! Kudos to you! (and a star :)
Because in many women there seems to be a part of them that WANTS TO BE TREATED LIKE GARBAGE... But here's the kicker... It can't be because they're weak or submissive...They don't want to be seen as weak... It must be because their man IS A BEAST!!! And doesn't CARE that they (the woman) are strong and independent...Their man is SO strong that they treat them with the disregard that they would an unwanted MONGREL DOG! You see, if you pay attention to their feelings, they see you as weak...If you rape them and punch them in the face when they mouth-off, then you're a MAN... Fortunately, most women don't have this problem to that degree, but it seems to exist in some form or fashion in many of them...
That was a downside of the sexual revolution. Yes, we have the right to be sexual, but we also have a responsibility to keep it in the bedroom. The music industry isn't aware of this.
Classic rock - such as aerosmith, Cheap Trick, Boston, Kiss, Alice Cooper..... those sort of groups. But ~ I like some BSB, N'Sync, Green Day and so on. I favor the classics though ~ more than any other.
