Accelerated learning

Accelerated learning or Speed Learning presents methods of learning that
speed up the absorption and retention of information in the human mind. It
employs powerful associations such as visual images, music, rhythm and
emotive words so that the right and left brain and conscious and subconscious
mind can easily latch on to information.

Accelerated learning was derived from the work of Dr. Georgi Lozanov and
other psychological researchers and educators who studied people with unusual
mental abilities - namely, hypermnesia or photographic memory. The
conclusions from this work were used in what is termed accelerated or speed
learning systems.

Since it can be applied to a wide range of courses and subjects, some
universities around the world as well as multi-national companies and
government agencies have adopted accelerated or speed learning systems.
Accelerated learning aims to direct the student's mind into a relaxed, yet
receptive state that allows absorption of new material. It also strongly
involves our emotions in order to enhance the learning experience. Using
harmonious and stimulating materials, students are encouraged to picture the
learning materials vividly in their mind's eye and to hear it in their minds.


This method of learning is said to improve the speed of learning by at least
300% and it is endorsed by UNESCO (United Nations Education and Scientific
Cultural Organisation). Findings of a UNESCO study of 2300 students in
educational institutions using speed learning methods state that neurotic
disorders and absenteeism were reduced by half! This is an indication that
speed learning increases enjoyment while having beneficial health side
effects.

Accelerated learning proves that the human mind is able to achieve
spectacular feats when learning blocks are eliminated. Central principles of
accelerated learning are the creation of high expectations of learning
success, the removal of the fear of learning new materials, and of the
negative suggestions implanted into the learner from childhood. Accelerated
learning also removes the negative association of learning with boredom,
anxiety and pain.

The overall goal of accelerated learning is to make learning an enjoyable
experience, devoid of tension and to fully engage the left and right brain,
the conscious and subconcious, to produce a synergy in learning that is not
possible in a traditional setting.
