    28 Apr 2008 at 4:28pm

Multi-platinum two-time Grammy-winning rock band Linkin Park has announced the much-anticipated lineup for Projekt Revolution 2008. The fifth installation of the band?s raging road show will see them headlining an all-star bill that features former Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell, electro-rockers The Bravery and Ashes Divide, featuring Billy Howerdel, known for his work with A Perfect Circle. The Revolution stage will be headlined by metallic act Atreyu and features hard hitters 10 Years, fiery Ohio natives Hawthorne Heights and buzz band Armor For Sleep. Also performing will be percussive force Street Drum Corps. The tour launches July 16 at the Tweeter Center in Boston. In keeping with the theme of revolution, Linkin Park is teaming with Live Nation and giving back to their fans by picking up the tab for the service fees normally tacked onto concert ticket prices. This precedent-setting no-service-charge limited time offer is available for artist fan club members anxious to purchase tickets to the upcoming tour. Beginning at 10AM on April 4th, fans can take advantage of Linkin Park?s special offer to cover the cost of extra fees by pre-ordering tickets at www.lpunderground.com or www.livenation.com. Tickets for select dates go on sale nationally beginning April 11th ? go to www.linkinpark.com, www.projektrevolution.com or www.livenation.com for show dates and on-sale information in each area. ?As a thank you to our fan club, we?re picking up part of the tab for their tickets to this summer?s Projekt Revolution,? says Linkin Park co-frontman Mike Shinoda. ?We?ll be paying the service charge on fanclub pre-sale tickets, which will save each fan roughly $8-11. Our fan club has been incredibly loyal and supportive, and we hope this gesture lets them know how much we appreciate them.? In addition, Linkin Park is once again offering their fans the option of purchasing the Digital Souvenir Package, a groundbreaking promotion that provides concert-goers with a special post-gig memento: a live audio download and exclusive concert photos of that night?s performance by Linkin Park, as well as a digital tour program. In short, it provides a live experience that concertgoers will never forget. Produced by Live Nation and partnered with Major League Baseball, Monster Energy Drink, Verizon Wireless and Nowwhat.com, Projekt Revolution 2008 sees Linkin Park building upon the success and excitement of previous Revolution tours, which included artists such as My Chemical Romance, Korn, Snoop Dogg, HIM, Xzibit and Mudvayne, among others. ?We started Projekt Revolution six years ago and have been lucky to have toured with some great bands,? says Linkin Park co-frontman Chester Bennington. ?This year, however, might just be the best lineup yet. We?re looking forward to taking this show on the road and bringing great music to the masses.? Last month Linkin Park took a break from their headlining tour in support of new album MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT and traveled to New Orleans to help families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The band joined volunteers from Music for Relief, and Habitat homeowner families from New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity to build homes in the damaged Gulf Coast area. Prior to that, Linkin Park?s nonprofit organization, Music For Relief, initiated a partnership with Hollywood for Habitat For Humanity to fund and build homes in hurricane ravaged areas. Additionally, Linkin Park recently donated $1 from each ticket sold on their European & UK, U.S. & Canadian headlining dates to Music for Relief for a tree-planting initiative. With Projekt Revolution 2008, Linkin Park continues to give back, as $1 from every ticket sold will go toward Music for Relief to support disaster relief and reduce global warming. In just over a year Music For Relief has raised over $1 million for reforestation, planting over 797,000 trees. Music For Relief endeavors to help victims recover and rebuild following natural disasters but also works to reduce global warming. During Projekt Revolution 2008, Music for Relief will continue its grassroots outreach to fans to educate them on how to reduce their own carbon emissions and how those changes can have a global effect.

    26 Apr 2008 at 1:54pm

After a short-lived stint at the Berklee College of Music, where he had a "great learning experience, but not because of class," John Mayer set down roots in Atlanta, where his music career hit the ground running. After one year in Atlanta, he released his debut solo album, Inside Wants Out, in 1999. At the same time, he became a regular in the Atlanta club circuit, playing a steady stream of shows at venues like Eddie's Attic. An appearance in March 2000 at the South by Southwest Music Festival led to a recording contract with Aware Records, a subsidiary of Columbia. He began recording his major-label debut, Room for Squares, that fall with producer John Alagia, who had previously worked with artists like Dave Matthews and the Ben Folds Five. Mayer's first album had been a decidedly acoustic effort; in contrast, Room for Squares featured a full electric band and showed the work of its producer with its funky hooks and an emphasis placed on Mayer's versatile, smooth voice, which bore more than just a stylistic resemblance to Dave Matthews. Columbia re-released Room for Squares in the summer of 2001, adding one bonus track, and also offered a very limited-edition two-CD set including a disc with two previously unreleased covers. Mayer's dedicated fan base grew substantially larger during his first cross-country tour to support the album, spawning a number of CD-R trading outlets through fan websites, as well as a successful live album, Any Given Thursday. Mayer's lucrative follow-up, 2004's Heavier Things, resulted in another Grammy, this time for Song of the Year. Looking to strip his sound down, he formed the John Mayer Trio with drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino. Their sold-out tour was documented on the 2005 release Try! John Mayer Trio Live in Concert. Continuum arrived the following year. ~ Stacia Proefrock, All Music Guide

    21 Apr 2008 at 2:48pm

New Jersey siblings Joseph, Kevin, and Nicholas Jonas craft hook-filled power pop anthems in the vein of the Ramones, Hanson, and the Modern Lovers. The young East Coast natives -- as of 2006 the trio topped out at 16, 17, and 13, respectively -- were reared in the city of Wyckoff under the tutelage of musician parents. The group formed initially around the soulful voice of Nicholas, who had wowed enough executives at Daylight/Columbia Records to warrant a solo album, but when the brothers began writing and performing new songs together, it became apparent to both band and label that something special was happening. Their full-length debut, It's About Time, was released in August 2006, followed by the eponymous Jonas Brothers in 2007. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide

Makana is the hottest new musical artist emerging from Hawai?i. A protégé of the Slack Key Masters, he is considered the youngest living master of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar and a pioneer in his own style of contemporary world rock. Makana has opened for greats like Sting and Santana, released four highly acclaimed and diverse albums, and is well received by audiences worldwide, often with standing ovations. His music transcends category and trend by integrating elements of folk, rock, ethnic, classical, bluegrass, jazz, traditional, ambient and Hawaiian slack key in gentle to commanding arrangements. The result is innovation and the charting of new sonic frontiers with deep ties to tradition. Ki Ho?alu, or ?slack key?, is the indigenous Hawaiian art form and foundation upon which Makana creates ground-breaking original music and reanimates the classics. He attributes his command of the guitar to over a decade of soaking up the licks and influence of Hawai?i?s treasured Masters of an art form older than the blues.?Slack key guitar music, indigenous to Hawai?i, has been around longer than the blues, and Makana is considered one of the greatest living players.? - Esquire Magazine, March 20032006 Grammy Nomination for ?Hawaiian Slack Key Kings?"Best World Music Album" at the Hawai?i Music Awards"Makana" voted "Best CD" by the readers of the Honolulu Weeklywww.makanalive.com and www.myspace.com/makanaworld

38 years ? and still taking it to the streets. It?s a milestone year for Wishbone Ash as they tear up the highway and cut loose in the studio. In 2008, British twin-lead guitar band Wishbone Ash celebrates 38 years of rock ?n? roll in true Ash fashion: touring, touring and more touring ? in Turkey, Germany, Holland the United States, the United Kingdom and France. Plans are also under way to record a new studio album and to release a live CD.Formed in October 1969, Wishbone Ash was gigging by 1970. The band garnered notice in the early days for a unique blend of blues, jazz and English folk. But it was the way the guitars played melodic leads together that would become Wishbone Ash?s trademark, inspiring such bands as Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden. Throughout the years, many notable musicians have contributed their talents to the band, including Asia?s John Wetton, Trevor Bolder from Uriah Heep and Laurie Wisefield. Today, Wishbone Ash fans worldwide enthusiastically embrace the synergy that comes with the new dynamic of the band. www.wishboneash.comMedia at: www.wishboneash.com/media.asp
