The lush RB of Kenny Babyface Edmonds owes its origins to the white singer-songwriter
sounds of James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, and Dave Loggins? Apparently so. That's the
music that Babyface, one of the biggest urban radio stars of the '90s, grew up on as
a kid in Indianapolis, hence the premise of this album of mostly cover songs. His
performance throughout is solidly heartfelt, particularly on the two originals, Not
Going Anywhere, a sweet ballad of comfort to his son in the wake of Edmonds' divorce,
and The Soldier Song, a touching call for respect to America's fighting men and
women. But while he puts a silkier spin on Taylor's deadly Shower the People, and
helps Loggins finally grow a pair on Please Come to Boston, Edmonds the producer does
little to interpret the songs in a new way. In the end, it all just comes off, like
David Gates's Diary, as Bread, all of it awfully, awfully, awfully white. ~ Alanna
Nash br /

Product Descriptionbr /
PLAYLIST is Babyface's first album devoted (mostly) to cover versions of some of the
songs that truly inspired him, among them James Taylor's Fire Rain, Bob Dylan's
Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Dan Fogelberg's Longer, Jim Croce's Time In A Bottle, Eric
Clapton's Wonderful Tonight, and many others. The album also includes original
material, including Not Going Anywhere - a heartfelt treasure for parents that
tenderly expresses the struggle of divorce.br /
br /
You know the songs, you know the artist, but this special combination creates the
type of musical magic that only few artists are capable of realizing. Kenny Babyface
Edmunds has delivered the magic again, and this time it's all about his personal
PLAYLIST. br /

Babyface has the perfect voice for these beautiful melodies. These songs bring back
wonderful memories. When I heard Fire and Rain on the radio, I knew I was going to
purchase this CD. Great job Babyface. ~ fjmcmmbr /

No need for introduction i believe... but in case if i need to put some facts of him,
he's one of the greatest songwriter of the century, besides br /
br /
singing, playing guitar, keyboards, and also music and movie producer. Many big names
sang the song he wrote, such as Karyn White, Bobby br /
br /
Brown, Paula Abdul, Toni Braxton, TLC, Whitney Houston, Boys II Men, Madonna, Eric
Clapton, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, br /
br /
Mariah Carey, Vanessa Williams, Phil Collins and many others. He'll perform as a
special show in Java Jazz Festival 2008 really soon. So here br /
br /
are the albums and one single of Babyface. Enjoy!br /

Amazon.combr /
Screw Barry Manilow--it was Kenneth Babyface Edmonds who really wrote the songs the
whole world sings. From the late '80s to the br /
br /
mid-'90s, no single artist owned the RB and pop charts with a tighter or more fluid
grip than Babyface (and his then partners L.A. Reid and br /
br /
Darryl Simmons), and this Greatest Hits collection is proof of this
singer-songwriter/producer's way with romance and rhythm. The catch is that br /
br /
this CD contains only the smashes Face kept for himself: a definitive collection of
the songs he handed to others would constitute a box set. br /
br /
This CD covers his solo efforts, from the tangy Whip Appeal to the aching Every Time
I Close My Eyes and the understated When Will I br /
br /
See You ( arguably the first RB acoustic power ballad ). With two new cuts and a live
version of the rammy-winning Change the World, br /
br /
these 14 tracks sum up an era in RB when wearing one's heart on one's sleeve and
reaching for the most nuanced of melodies was an act of br /
br /
creative revolution. Sure, some called his act corny, but, as this CD proves,
Babyface made minor classics that sound just as gentle and br /
br /
ersuasive today as they did back then. ~ Amy Linden br /
br /
Ever since he was with The Deele, I have been a Babyface fan. The live version of Two
Occasions and Sweet November still get constant br /
br /
rotations in my CD player. Kenneth Edmonds has always had a way with words and music.
He has wriiten and produced for many other artists br /
br /
and has many #1 and top ten hits to his credit. The first Babyface CD I purchased was
Tender Lover and I have got everyone of his since. br /
br /
Babyface is very versatile. He can do a song like It's No Crime and then he can come
back with slow jams to remember like Whip Appeal. br /
br /
He can do a remix for the song, This Is For The Love Of You with Puff Daddy
Ghostface Killah and then he can come out with another slow br /
br /
jam classic like Seven Seas, which is on The Day CD. At first, I was not going to
purchase this CD, because I have all of his CDs in my br /
br /
collection, but when I heard Reason For Breathing I had no choice but to go make a
purchase. This song alone is worth the ... Reason For br /
br /
Breathing is classic Babyface. So just in case you thought he lost it, this is just a
song to show people that there is still more Babyface to br /
br /
come. Other Babyface classics such as Where Will You Go, Never Keeping Secrets, When
Will I See You Again Everytime I Close My br /
br /
Eyes are featured, as well as, my favorite Babyface song of all time, Soon As I Get
Home. Other than Reason For Breathing, he also has a br /
br /
new song called When Men Grow Old, which is also a good song as well. The only three
songs I might have featured that aren't on this br /
br /
greatest hits CDs are Love Makes Things Happen w/Pebbles, Seven Seas, and I Said I
Love You. To anyone that is a Babyface fan and br /
br /
has not bought any of his CDs, this is a great collection of songs to have. ~ J.

Although, Babyface has released 3 CDs, sice 1996's, The Day, 1997's, MTV Unplugged,
1998's, Christmas with Babyface and last year's, br /
br /
A Collection Of Hits, Face 2 Face is Babyface's 1st full length release in 5 years.
As a rb music fan of slow jams, Babyface is one of my br /
br /
favorite artists to listen to when I want to listen to a good slow jam. Soon As I Get
Home, Where Will You Go, Whip Appeal, Never br /
br /
Keeping Secrets, I Said I Love You, Everytime I Close My Eyes and 2000's, Reason For
Breathing have always been favorites of mine. br /
br /
Babyface is known for a distinct style and that is usually good love making music
that's smooth and occasionally you'll get an uptempo track br /
br /
to go with the slow jams and the midtempo songs. All of his full length CDs in my
collection have impressed me: Tender Lover, For The br /
br /
Cool In You and The Day. With Face 2 Face, Babyface is taking a different route this
time. This CD is totally different from anything that br /
br /
he has released previously. The prime example of this is the 1st single, There She
Goes. This Neptunes' track is off the wall. This is definitely br /
br /
his best uptempo track ever. Babyface does things falsetto style and it brings
pleasant results. Babyface fans that aren't used to this may not br /
br /
enjoy this song at all. This one was made just for the clubs and is not like any
uptempo song he has done previously. His 2nd single, What If br /
br /
is more of what people are use to from him. It's a nice slow jam that talks about how
things may have been or could still be with one of his br /
br /
ex-girlfriends. This is vintage Babyface and is definitely one of the best songs on
this CD. A track that you would have never expected, br /
br /
Baby's Mama w/Snoop Dogg, has Babyface telling a man that he should pay more
attention to his responsibilities as a father instead of br /
br /
worrying about who his baby's mama is dating and trying to get back together with
her. The song makes a good point and Snoop delivers as br /
br /
usual on the rap. The only things that his fans will have to get use to are his
overuse of the falsetto tone and the fact that Babyface is using a br /
br /
little foul language. When I think of Babyface, I think of smooth and sensual rb
music and although he does hold true to that on some somgs, br /
br /
you have to get use to some of the subject matter on some songs. Other highlights
include the nice slow jam, With Him, I Keep Callin', br /
br /
Wish U Was My Girl and the nice How Can U Be Down. In the latter song, Babyface tells
a tale about a woman that is trying to be down br /
br /
with him that his woman knows. She is seductively trying to work her way into
Babyface's pants and he rejects her since he is with someone. br /
br /
I like this CD and I would give it 4.5 stars and not 5. If you are a Babyface fan,
buy this CD and listen to it 2 or 3 times and it will grow on you. I br /
br /
promise. ~ J. Highsmithbr /
br /
There's no denying that heartfelt love songs are Babyface's stock in trade, and
there's certainly no shortage of those on FACE 2 FACE, but br /
br /
the Face does push the envelope just a touch on this album. 'What If' is a classic
slow-jam in Babyface's patented romantic ballad style, as are br /
br /
many other tunes here, but there are some slight stylistic diversions present as
well. The breathless falsetto exhortations and syncopated br /
br /
rhythms of 'There She Goes' make it sound like an outtake from Michael Jackson's OFF
THE WALL. For another change of pace, Snoop Dogg br /
br /
adds a little hip-hop flavor to the proceedings via his guest appearance on 'Baby's
Mama.' Meanwhile, the sizzling midtempo RB of 'Wish U br /
br /
Was My Girl' wouldn't have sounded out of place in the repertoire of 'Diamonds and
Pearls'-era Prince. FACE 2 FACE is the sound of a br /
br /
consummate craftsman who's found a way to have his cake and eat it simultaneously,
and with a maximum amount of soul.br /
br /
Babyface has done it again! I can't say enough about this CD. Every song could be a
potential hit. Very seldom do you find a CD where every br /
br /
song could be released as a single. Babyface has proved himself a songwriter to the
hundreth degree. The songs are well put together and br /
br /
sung articulately. Baby's Mama featuring Snoop Dog is fun and so true. What
If,already a hit, is why I bought the CD. I recommend this CD br /
br /
to everyone as it is one of his best to date in my opinion!br /

Babyface has been in the game for close to 30 years and love songs is a collection of
some of best ballads. The CD starts out with the smooth and sultry I Said I Love You
then goes into All Day All Thinkin and from then on it's smooth, sensual lovemaking,
baby making, getting married quiet storm classics. Whip Appeal, Sunshine, When Can I
See You Again, For The Cool In You there all here, but my all time favorite Babyface
song is Soon As I Get Home it's helped me get plenty of women. ~ Derrick Dunnbr /
br /
Babyface has always been a favourite of mine from way back. I listened to him back in
the late 80's - early 90's before It's No Crime and he's always been amazing. br /
One of the most stunning songs ever ever ever is Soon As I Get Home. It oozes romance
and it's stunning. Whip Appeal is a classic slow jam that I still love, and For The
Cool In You is a slightly more recent funky song. There is no bad song on here. Maybe
he's not in the exact same league as Luther or Peabo, but he's still in my top 5 all
time male artists. He's the King of romantic soul ballads and he's very, very
talented. If you like slow jams and fantastic bedroom music, then go get this. I love
it. ~ Little Miss Cuteybr /

Kenneth Babyface Edmonds is pop's best melodic writer since the heyday of Stevie
Wonder and Paul McCartney. On The Day, Babyface makes that connection explicit by
cowriting How Come, How Long with Wonder, who also contributes a duet vocal, a
harmonica solo, and longtime bassist Nathan East to the session. Even more impressive
is the fact that the eight songs Babyface wrote for The Day without his hero's help
also boast yearning melodies and ear-opening chord changes that are absolutely
Wonder-ful. ~ Geoffrey Himes br /
br /
The Day is something truly special. Many ballad albums fail to reach the depth that
this album reaches. Babyface reaches deep into his soul for this one. br /
Never has there (in my humble opinion) ever been any artist that has recorded an
album that so personal. The ballads are full of meaning and the acoustic sound Face
went for on this album is so beautiful. How Come, How Long is one of Stevie's best
works in the 90s and the theme is so sad. br /
br /
Best of all would be the most personal songs on the album: Simple Days and The Day.
The Day in particular is so emotionally charged. It almost brings me to tears
everytime I hear the line: It's like a song I've never heard, I've never sung but
know the words. Just amazing ~ Donovan Juanbr /
br /
Kenneth Edmonds sure knows how to write a song. This is a very nice album. It
contains lots of love songs and a few meaningful songs. This album has a relaxed feel
to it. I hope anyone who wants to buy this is not expecting Babyface to have party
starters on here, no no. This album is more suited for a romantic evening with your
baby. br /
The Day, the album's title track, is a song about the day Tracey Edmonds told
Babyface she was pregnant with their first child, Brandon. This song is very sweet,
the only instrument being Babyface on the piano. The song is heartfelt, and the
listener knows that this song is not just a song, it is an experience. Simple Days is
an album highlight. It's a pretty slow song about life back in the day. Babyface
tries to keep up with the younger rb artists with All Day Thinkin' and This is for
the Lover in You. This is for the Lover in You features Jody Watley, Howard Hewitt
and LL Cool J. it's a nice song and it was released. Seven Seas is one of the best
love songs ever. Babyface is letting his woman know that there is nothing he wont do
for her. I love it! How Come, How Long has a truly important message: if you are
experiencing domestic violence, remove yourself from the situation before it's too
late. It is definitely something young people of today needed to hear. I like this
album. ~ Mikeisha Bestbr /

Adult contemporary RB. This CD is still in rotation at my house, in my car and at my
office. Each and every song, sounds as good as they did when he released this gem.
This CD displayed how much Babyface matured over the years. Poignant pleading jams,
tasty midtempo jams, juicy slow jams and fast paced, finger popping, sing with
me..jams! This CD has it all start to finish...I promise you! ~ Jerzygurlbr /
br /
One of the best albums of 1993, and makes mincemeat out of all his other albums.
Contrary to what many people say, I think this album makes a good argument against
the accepted belief that Babyface makes better music for other people than he does
for himself. Never Keeping Secrets, And Our Feelings, When Can I See You, and the
title song were all over urban contemporary radio in 1993-94; just as good were Lady
Lady and A Bit Old Fashioned. I bought the cassette back in '93, and the first time I
listened to it was in the car one night when my mom and I were on our way back from
eating out, and to this day, whenever I'm in the neighborhood where that restaurant
used to be, I always think of this album. ~ Glen Zimmerman BevisButtsbr /
br /
For The Cool In You is the follow-up to Babyface's debut solo career and did not lose
his step from Tender Lover. This LP was entirely produced by Babyface, L.A. Reid
Daryl Simmons and Face wrote and or co-wrote eleven of the twelve featured songs on
here. The only one that was not is a remake of You Are So Beautiful and it is just
that. The formula here is good wholesome RB with a pop twist to it. As for a
standout, the acoustic driven When Can I See You Again balances this album for a more
sincere feeling. The two titles that are more or less up-tempo is the title track and
Saturday as the remainder is either slow or laid back. Lyrically Face has captured
the full extent of a true relationship from asking for the initial commitment in
Lady, Lady to the devastating breakup in And Our Feelings. But, this is Babyface and
one should expect nothing but the best. ~ Carltouis Stevensonbr /

Babyface, born Kenneth Edmonds, has contributed more to rb than any other artist
since the late 1980s. A former singer in the group the Deele (remember Two
Occasions?), Babyface was not only a Grammy winning songwriter, but he was also a
fixture in the entertainment industry. Everyone, from Aretha to Paula Abdul to
Madonna to Eric Clapton, got the Babyface treatment. Although Tender Lover is not the
singer's debut (that would be Lovers), it's the first solo record released since he
made it big as a producer. With hired hands LA Reid and Daryl Simmons on board,
Tender Lover is one of the essential rb records to own. There are no samples. No
guest rappers. Just an album full of songs devoted to the topic Face knows best:
love. Uptempo numbers It's No Crime, My Kind of Girl, and Lets Be Romantic bring to
mind an innocent era that's apparently all but forgotten, while the second half of
the disc are silky-smooth ballads such as Given a Chance, and, of course, the killer
jam Whip Appeal. If I had to pick any bad songs off this album, I'd be at a loss, for
Tender Lover remains consistent and filler-free. It's a great showcase of his talents
as both a singer and songwriter. His style may be a bit old fashioned, but all things
considered, that ain't necessarily a bad thing. ~ The Groove (Boston, MA)br /
br /
Tender Lover, Babyface's second solo album and the album that established him as a
multiple threat(singer, songwriter, producer, and musician) in the world of Pop and
RB still sounds as great today as when I first heard it back in '89. Spinning off
numerous hit singles like the top tens It's No Crime, and Whip Appeal, and others
like My Kinda Girl and the title track, 'Face proved that he could give himself the
midas touch as well as the artists he and his writing and production partner L.A.
Reid worked with. More than anything, at a time when critics were saying that real RB
was dead, ballads like Soon As I Get Home, and Given A Chance proved that wrong by
how fans and especially radio embraced these songs even though they were never
released as singles. A great album and still one of my favorites to this day. ~

A true classic album for the ages. br /
I was 8 years old when my family had the original vinyl album in the late 80's and it
recently got thrown away along with other old albums in late may 2005. Having
purchased this title on cd and listening to all the original tracks for the fist time
since the 1980's when this album was very popular, it can surely bring back some
memories for those who enjoyed this album back when it came out in 1989. All the
great hits from this album such as it's no crime, the title track tender lover, whip
appeal, my kinda girl, where will you go really help this ablum gain absolute
success. In many ways this ablum is still great to listen to any time practically.
This might end up on a compilation of a 2 classic albums on 1 cd, which is something
that is being done for artist and or bands that released albums that are made to be
classics such as babyface's tender lover album. ~ vanilillibr /
