A Pop-up Storefront Event Organaized in association with LA Forum for Architecture and Urban Design Sunday April 13, 2pm (Location: Pop-Up Storefront LA) Fr�d�ric Chaubin and Richard Pare, with Barry Bergdoll, Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture & Design at MoMA, NYC, and Joseph Grima, Director of Storefront for Art and Architecture, NYC To celebrate the opening of the first Pop-Up Storefront in Los Angeles, and the opening of the exhibition CCCP: Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed, Pop-Up Storefront LA hosted a discussion on the topic of the Soviet architectural legacy of the 20th century. Drawing on accounts of the personal experiences of Richard Pare and Frederic Chaubin, the two photographers who have most extensively documented the current state of 20th century architecture in the former USSR, the discussion will be centered around the the potential of photography both as a tool for investigation and discovery and an instrument of archival preservation. Richard Pare's exhibition Lost Vanguard: Soviet Modernist Architecture, 1922-1932 (MoMA, New York, July-October, 2007) and Fr�d�ric Chaubin's Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed (Storefront for Art and Architecture, New York, April 2007) document two distinctly different periods in the history of Soviet architecture (1922-1932 and 1969-1989 respectively), but many of the same threats imperil the existence of the buildings captured so brilliantly in their photographs. At this poignant moment of social and political transformation in the the former USSR, the future of a century of architectural history remains uncertain, placing all the more importance on the photographic record.

Artists Of The 20th Century: Andy Warhol

Born in Pittsburgh to Czechoslovakian immigrants, Andy Warhol graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology with a degree in pictorial design. Following this, he moved to New York where he found steady work as a commercial artist. In the early sixties Warhol's first Pop paintings, many of which remain icons of 20th century art, such as the Campbell's Soup Cans and Marilyn Monroe screenprints catapulted him to fame. At the same time he expanded his artistic interests to other media; he began making films and collaborating with the rock group The Velvet Underground. His productivity continued through the 70s and 80s, ending with his 1986 series on The Last Supper. Firmly established as an international celebrity, Warhol exhibited his work extensively in museums and galleries around the world. Through his groundbreaking work, he brought avant garde art to the public conscious and became one of the most influential figures in post-war American art.Includes spectacular images of his greatest work.

Irish music is a folk music which has remained vibrant throughout the 20th century, when many other traditional forms worldwide lost popularity to pop music. In spite of emigration and a well-developed connection to music influences from Britain and the United States, Irish music has kept many of its traditional aspects; indeed, it has itself influenced many forms of music, such as country and roots music in the USA, which in turn have greatly influenced rock music in the 20th century. It has occasionally also been modernised, however, and fused with rock and roll, punk rock and other genres. Some of these fusion artists have attained mainstream success, at home and abroad. (One example of a traditional song that has received exposure as the result of being recorded by pop and rock artists is "She Moved Through the Fair".) During the 1970s and 1980s, the distinction between traditional and rock musicians became blurred, with many individuals regularly crossing over between these styles of playing as a matter of course. Song featured in Lords of Dogtown. awesome song. and those are Pop Rocks so yeah....sorry to disappont, and im just filming her eating pop rocks i was annoying her on purpose so yeah....and the person is an imaginary person named 8-Track. There are no drugs in this video there just pop rocks it was very well edited and just somehow turned out that way. it looks cool so there are no drugs its just pop rocks! so no complaining of any sort. Dogtown has a lot of history dating back to the days of coal mining, but has transformed itself into an area with a European feel to it. Walk through the streets & enjoy the early 20th century style architecture. There are plenty of cafes, coffeehouses & neighborhood bar & grills to pop into, as well as some interesting stores. A nice way to spend a Saturday, wandering through dogtown & taking in the sights & ambience.

Patsy Cline (born Virginia Patterson Hensley in 1932 ? d. 1963) was a Country music/Pop music singer, who enjoyed Pop music cross-over success during the era of the Nashville Sound in the early 1960's. She became one of the first Country singers to have major success on the Pop charts. Since her death at the age of 30 in a 1963 plane crash during the height of her fame, she has been considered one of the most influential and successful female vocalists of the 20th Century. Her life and career has been the subject of numerous books, movies, documentaries, articles and stage plays. Influenced by stars such as Judy Garland or Kay Starr, Cline was best known for her voice. Many artists over the years have tried to re-create Cline's sound. Her signature songs include "Crazy", "I Fall to Pieces", "She's Got You", "So Wrong" and "Walkin' After Midnight". She has sold millions of albums over the past 50 years, which gave Patsy Cline an iconic fan status, similar to that of country artists like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. In 1992, the U.S. Postal Service honored her, along with Hank Williams, on a U.S. postage stamp. In 1995, she was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, along with Barbra Streisand and Peggy Lee. And, in 1999, Patsy Cline was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. McCartney was always one for musical experimentation with the desire to push the Beatles into new areas, both musically, conceptually and visually. He had already come up with one of the first rock-concept albums, 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' and followed it with a television special containing odd, somewhat-related story and visuals attached to unusual/peculiar songs.
